An Optometrist (and shooter) saw me a few weeks ago. He set me up with glasses specifically for shooting my pistols with my eyes. Started wearing them soon after. Uhh, WOW. Good news is I see my sights AND target better than I have in ions. Bad new is that I no longer have the vision excuse. That's some bulls#it right there. <_<

Does your dominant eye have a stronger lens set specifically for the front sight?

Yes. My non-dom tries hard but is pretty much along for the ride (astigmatism). I'm VERY impressed that I have clear vision at distance with them too. With both eyes. Was expecting that aspect of the correction to be blurry. Not so. It's a well balanced prescription. I will say that seeing this much is a little weird and is going to take some acclamation.

Merlin, do it! I bought the first set 4 years ago as an experiment. Finally switched to Decot's and I have one lens for the left eye and two for the right. I'm right eye dominant so I have one lens specifically for shotgun and the other for handgun. The left eye has a mild correction for distance. The handgun lens will work for handgun, scope and shotgun.

I have to take time to get a pair made specifically for shooting. Been saying this for 5 years... <_<

Yes you do! A couple years back, I tried a pair with the dominate eye focus on the front sight. It worked fine for target no more than 15 yards or so. Unfortunately, at the matches that I shoot there are always longer shots out to 50 yards some times. I had a chat with Robert Lewis at the 07 Area 2 Vendor Tent (Decot) info_pistols.jpg about iron sight glasses and he suggested a focus between the targets and the front sight. So, I took my limited gun over to my eye doc who also teaches and loves doing new things . He put his lab glasses on me and we built a prescription with a compromise focus between the front sight and a target that I set up at the end of a hallway. With that script I was able to hit a mini-popper at 30 yards with my Cz. This year I had Decot* make a pair of glasses for open (both eyes distant) and an extra lens for limited. I shot SS last Sunday and had no problems with the far targets on this stage

You really should give this a try. Be warned though, you will then have rely on excuses other than vision!

Later,

Chuck

* It turns out that the experimental prescription that we developed was the same as what Robert at Decot would of recommended. I recommend him highly, He was able to build two prescriptions for my eyes which are farsighted, astigmatic and have prism. I also thought that I would never need the adjustable bridge that they sell but I have wound up making adjustments at almost every match I have used them to adapt to low ports and stuff!
