ffl
Yuthh, If you want to shoot ICORE a 627 (38spl or .357) is the way to go. If you want to shoot ICORE and USPSA a 625 or 686 (six shot) is the way to go. Call me and I will help you out. Welcome to the forum David S ps Shaun G called me today as well. sargenv
And if you already own a gun in 40 caliber, you might want to look into getting a 610 in either the 4 or 6.5 inch tube since you can load the 610 with either 40 S&W or 10 mm.
snertley
+1 on the 610, but I could be biased.

Tom E
Are you chamfering the chambers in the moon clip cut cylinders or leaving them alone? Looks like a chamfer would render them useless without moon clips.
Spray_N_Prey
so you would not be able to use the 627 pro in USPSA?
David Sinko
I don't see why you couldn't use a 627 Pro in USPSA. I really like the idea of a 4" 8 shot .357, for various reasons. I was recently squadded with a shooter who used one of these at a big ICORE match and his performed beautifully with moonclipped .38 Short Colt and cast bullets. He did not have any problems at all and I was surprised at how well the gun performed. He told me he'd sell that gun if S&W ever made an 8 shot 9mm, but that gun performed so well I think he'd be crazy to give it up for any 9mm. I heard that .38 Short Colt has been banned from IDPA. I don't know if this means ESR or SSR. I don't think it's desireable (or even possible?) to use Short Colt in speedloaders for SSR or make 165 PF with the Short Colt for ESR. ffl
apparrently idpa only allows you to shoot what is listed on the gun. so a shortened 38 spl or true 38SC or 38LC would not be albe to be used in idpa. however if you have a 357mag i think you can shoot 38 spl in it as well. as for PF you can't make 165 with a short colt (in my opinion) and still be considered safe. others will disagree caveat emptor. Well Yuthh's the one that wants to shoot 38SC, I would be happy with 38 special since I have about 1000 pieces of once fired brass already for 38 special. He just thinks that reloads would be alot faster with the SC. I don't see it being a big deal. what's power factor in ICORE?
ffl
Power factor in ICORE is 120. Short Colt or 38spl load about the same. However the advantage is if you are dumping partially loaded moons the 38spl's tend to hang half way out and stick on the grip. Not all ways but enough that Little FFL went to 38SC and the extractor pushes the loaded rounds completely free from the chamber 100% of the time. come by the house or catch me at the range and I will show you. david

20nickels
Are you chamfering the chambers in the moon clip cut cylinders or leaving them alone? Looks like a chamfer would render them useless without moon clips. I'm curious of that myself. Pinnacle's website suggests always using moonclips with a chamfered cylinder for max reliability. Can anybody shed some light on this.
Viggen
Chamfer the charge holes, it still works fine for individual rounds. You can go mild or wild on the chamfer - I tend toward the mild to middle. Do a Search and you will find quite a bit about setting up a gun, including chamfering. There are cheap and effective ways.
