Barrel Change

Who out here in eastern Iowa is good at switching barrels on revolvers?

Carmoney here in DSM is, of course, the crowd favorite for revolver work. Doug Carden seems to know a bit about revolvers, and he's a proud customer of Matt Gish in Wapello. Dick Becker is in CR. I don't know if he does any revolver work, but I'd trust him to do a fine job on just about any gunsmithing project.

FYI, I asked Carmoney about switching a 4" barrel on a 625 to a 5", and he suggested that I just find a 5" 625 instead. I've heard from other gunsmiths that changing a revolver barrel is trickier than it sounds. I have a friend that had a barrel changed, and it's been "in the shop" for months while the gunsmith tries to fix problems that he uncovered while removing the barrel...

Yeah, I don't like to switch barrels on revolvers. To do it properly and efficiently, you really need a lathe to face down the shoulder. It's definitely not a "plug and play" proposition. I'll let somebody else handle that work.
