HSMITH
Sitting here on Tuesday, just got home from work, I have 500 miles in this week already and 25 hours on the job. Going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark sucks enough, but the inbred asshats that drive with their fog lights on make it terrible. If it isn't against the law it should be, SHUT YOUR DAMN FOGLIGHTS OFF!!!!! They don't let you seen any further and only serve to blind oncoming traffic!!! Couple those asshats with the asshats that have a work truck/van/whatever with a load of crap in the back and headlights adjusted for no load, now we have a ride that just pisses me off. If you load your vehicle down ADJUST YOUR DAMN HEADLIGHTS!!!! My last truck had several offroad lights that you could cook hotdogs on, going to have to revisit that and get the point across. I have dual batteries and a 180 amp alternator on this truck, you'll be able to see it from space when I get done. Cruise control is another big one for me, USE IT!!!!!!!! Traffic starts to build, some water head can't maintain a speed. He/she slows down 3 or 4 miles per hour, the car behind them has to slow down 6-8 mph to maintain distance due to the time it takes to recognize that the car is slowing, etc. Get back 15 cars and that poor bastard is slamming on his brakes and diving for the shoulder. Now we have gridlock/stop and go traffic that takes us ALL a ton longer to get home. If these MORONS would just set the cruise at the speed limit traffic could flow with FAR fewer problems. It should be legal to PIT an asshat that won't use the cruise control or maintain a consistent speed. My back and feet are just killing me from the last two days, all I wanted was to get home and people just piss me off. The more time I spend with the general public the less I want to be around them. scirocco38s
Most cars today the fog lights are decorations not truly fog lights. I know they are sold as fog lights but they arent. There are alot of cheap knock offs of the old Marchal, Cibie, or Hella lights. You also could get driving lights in the same configuration. The auto mfg's saw people adding them and started building them in but they used cheaper components. I had a BMW with a complete european light kit(Headlights and fogs) and after they were properly adjusted you could run the fogs and lowbeams and never bother oncoming traffic. And the high Beams would light up the road 4000 ft ahead of you if the road was straight and level. But you are right that there are alot of people that run them with no real reason to other than they have them. In some states the lights must be wired so that they only come on with certain combinations of lights. I had a Mercedes with factory fogs that were part of the main headlight assy and the fogs automatically turned off when you went to high beams. They were also amber which is much better for using in fog(Better contrast resolution). As for cruise control, you could use it much more efficiently if people would use some lane discipline. If you arent passing someone move back to the right so faster traffic can pass. I dont care if you pay taxes just like everyone else. Lane disipline is why traffic backs up and accidents are caused in the middle of nowhere for no good reason. I drive alot(over 40k/yr) and I do speed but I dont speed in traffic only when I am out by myself. It is hard to use the cruise when poeple dont drive with any courtesy. Modoc
How about the ultra bright headlights on certain new cars... to let you see more, or blind everyone else on the road. Just wait , I just had a cataract removed and before the surgery those and the "blue" lights are absoulutely the worst . The halo from the eye problem is intesified by these and really makes getting home at this time of year difficult
Greg Bell
I feel your pain! I did 625 miles in 11 hours to deliver equipment to 3 of our offices in East TN yesterday. I saw all kinds of stupid on the road yesterday.
Greg Bell
Most cars today the fog lights are decorations not truly fog lights. +1 I used to do a lot of SCCA club level rally events. I know what good lights are, how to adjust them and use them. My truck has some horrendous factory lighting, the US standards contribute to the problem. The euro specs have been better for decades. I've owned several cars with euro spec lights that have fantastic low beams that work well without blinding oncoming traffic.

buddy_fuentes
It use to be against the law to drive with auxiliary head lights on (fog or otherwise) when meeting oncoming traffic, in Louisiana. However, it was rarely enforced. I see a lot of what Howard complained about on the streets today. I have learned to look at the shoulder of the road to keep the "ass-hats" from blinding me. HSMITH
YES......and all this to ponder before I have to venture out for the T-Day drive... ..and a thought - I hear a good pump on your windshield wiper fluid sprayer is good for tailgaters - up and over - of course its like taking your new scope to the range - you've gotta dial it in...so I hear I have that covered, with massive soot generation on demand that coats windshields and makes pretty rainbows Very few of the traffic laws are enforced around here. I think it is because the dipshit density is very high and the LE numbers are very small in comparison. For example, less than 1 in 15 cars will hold the proper lane when pulling out onto a 3 or more lane road, instead they go all the way to the outside lane even if cars are trying to turn onto the same road in the same direction from the opposite side. Probably a third of the cars don't use turn signals. Even a headlight out or a tail light doesn't seem to get a car pulled over unless the car 'looks' like it could contain someone of interest, is weaving, more than 10 above the speed limit, etc. Deer density has been a problem around here for almost 10 years, there are too many and cars hit them at an alarming rate. Doe tags for the last couple hunting seasons have been $2 EACH with a limit of 10 in a lot of areas to give you an idea of how much too high the numbers are. The jerks with headlights that need adjusted or fog lights on significantly increase my chances of not seeing a deer in time, that is the primary reason it pisses me off so bad. John2A
Howard is 100% correct. I live in an area South of Charlotte. Last year my wife hit a deer around this same time of year. The reason she did not see it because of the on coming traffic. Now the SUV was ok and more importantly she was OK but it did scare her pretty good. As far as the people using cruise control/lane management I am with Howrad on this one as well. If the speed limit is 55 and you are doing 50 get the hell out of the left lane and move over so some one can pass you. If you are talking on the phone get out of the left lane. I would love to have marking device to deploy a small mark onto a vehicle so that it warn other drivers out there that, that person is an idiot and to be avoided at all possibility. MikeFoley
Howard, take a deep breath, follow them home, beat out their foglamps with a 3 iron, go on to bed. Seriously, before the old guys start talking about using 6V headlamps in their 12V cars!

Jim Norman
How about the "Cross-Eyed Car"? You know the one I mean, seems that one light is aimed up and over to directly shine on to the drivers position in oncoming cars. And it seems that it is always found on a car where the only lights that work are the high-beams, so the (Expletive deleted) can't even shut them down as he'd now have only maybe one dimmed out, misaligned low beam. LPatterson
This isn't a rebuttal but driving around southeast Michigan using cruise control is a good way to be in an accident. It is either 10-20 over the speed limit or stay in the right lane and get cut off when someone wants to get off. But then 3 and 4 lane limited access roads may be different than what you are driving on.
