Anybody use an AK type rifle in 3-gun?

I've shot my Yugo at a few local matches. The two things against 7.62x39 for me is any targets over 200 yards (for me at least) and the fact that it is the same PF as .223, but with more recoil, so my follow up shots are slower. I have more fun shooting my AK, but would prefer to be competitive.

AS long as the match is 100Yds or less..and not to many Mag changes,, ( that might just be my problem) you'll be good to go.

Now and again I'll pull mine out, just for the fun of it.

Are you in the Ft Hood area?

I saw a Georgia Boy at Area 6 3 Gun spank a lot of high tech AR's with an SKS that was fed by AK47 mags. He even faired pretty good on the 300 yd stage. Oh yeah , he was shooting notch and post iron sights. If I new his full name I would go to USPSA.org and look up how he did.

I am sure there are others that on this forum that know this gentleman.

For club matches, why the hell not. I think it would be fun. For big matches, I think the disadvantages would be too much.

What part of Texas are you from?

Just north of Tyler. Looking for somewhere to shoot a 3-gun match!

It's a long drive but this Saturday we'll be having one. www.wtps.us . 4 stages, 100 rifle, 100 pistol, 60 or so shotgun birdshot. Starts at 1pm, $15. USPSA rules & scoring. Should be a good time. Come on over if you don't mind the drive. We do multi-gun 4th saturdays of each month except December.

Contact me for more details.

That's cool. I'd probably prefer to have a Model D or M SKS for most rifle stages than an AK. The extra sight radius can't hurt. I think that in general, SKS's are a little more accurate than AK's. I like to see people having fun, and shooting unconventional stuff.
