-JQ-
This is remanufactured and fairly cheap...so I realize this may not be MOA ammo...but for three gun/practice? FWIW I do plan to start rolling my own 5.56 this winter...
TRUBL
Ultramax is basically the same as Black Hills If you can get it for a good price....it'll probably shoot good enough to even be match ammo!! Tim
uscbigdawg
It runs and I have found it to be very accurate. Heck even the 55gr. PSP's were drilling steel at Area 6 3-Gun in '06. Rich
-JQ-
I did a search too...I found lots of info from '06 when everyone was complaining about $200/K prices....ugggg. I found some for a decent price - not great. I'll have to mull it over...
davidwiz
I've been using the Ultramax remanufactured .223 for a couple of years now as match ammo, I think its great. Well made and flies great. The local Dick's sporting goods store near me carries it.
uscbigdawg
Dick's is always where I got them too (man I have to get down to Bass Pro in Manteca!). Rich
DMAC
I found it to be good enough for 3 gun. Unfortunately, our Dick's is sold out and Remington won't tell them when more is coming. I'm thinking about Winchester Q3131 from Palmetto State Armory.
Firstcut
I found it to be good enough for 3 gun. Unfortunately, our Dick's is sold out and Remington won't tell them when more is coming. I'm thinking about Winchester Q3131 from Palmetto State Armory. If dime sized groups are good enough @ 100 yds then give the 50gr NBT a try. JP recommended this and boy did he come through. Also give the Atlanta Arms 60gr Vmax a try - it rivals the Ultramax.
lmccrock
I have to ask --- What is Remington Ultramax? Ultramax is a different company. Ultramax always fired safely for me, but for 55gr FMJ bulk ammo there is new ammo which is more consistent and accurate. For short range (100 yards) it was fine. photoracer
I have to ask --- What is Remington Ultramax? Ultramax is a different company. Ultramax always fired safely for me, but for 55gr FMJ bulk ammo there is new ammo which is more consistent and accurate. For short range (100 yards) it was fine. Lee I have found that the Ultramax ammo works fine both for 3-gun and the occasional precision/tactical match. I bought 55, 62, and 68 grain versions to test out when I built my 3-gun AR (Stag 3GH upper). First match with it was a P/T match at Peacemaker NTC. Included 3-6" steel at 100-270 yards. Only only range I could get at to sight my gun in had a max of 100 yards. So I tested all three and memorized the published ballistic table. Shot the 62g in close and the 68g (a Sierra BTHP slug)for field targets. Had no problem nailing the long range steel in a crosswind using a 7" hold over. Made top 15 and Greg Jordan (2nd) shooting a mag fed bolt gun only beat me by 40 points (only 5 pts behind in one stage). Although I have accumulated reloading supplies for .223 I intend to keep shooting the 68g Ultramax until I reach a range that it gets inconsistant. I try to buy them when MidwayUSA has then on sale at around 50/$23. I am using WM Fed 55g for close in work, 100/$35.
