PaulW
I have 6 SPS .40 tubes as well as STi and SV tubes that I am trying to fit the new Bolen spring and follower to. Seems as though the follower just wants to pop up through the top, almost as if they are to narrow. Any Ideas?
Rocket35
Is the follower popping through the top of all the brands of mags?
HSMITH
Paul, load them FULL one time. If that doesn't work let me know.
PaulW
Yes all tubes. Thanks Howrad I will try that.
Jon Merricks
Paul I had the same problem, the follower was sitting a little canted. I bent the spring by hand so it should sit in the tube staright and it worked fine after that.

Maybe that is enough to have the springs settle and to align properly?
Jon Merricks
Yep I tried it full and also used the Dawson spring aligner thingy. Just needed a little more.
Rocket35
Good to know, thanks for sharing your experiences. Are they running 100% now?

Jon, They're supposed to be canted like that....that's part of the reason why they offer a capacity advantage over other followers. I'm sure Howard will chime in on this if he notices it, but when I first put Bolen followers in my mags from Howard, the Bolen springs weren't out yet. Howard specifically had me tweak the top of the spring so the follower would lie canted the way they do with the Bolen spring (it's already set that way). HSMITH
You shouldn't have to bend the spring if you are using a Bolen spring, if you are using Grams springs you will need to bend them to match the Bolen spring. Loading the mag FULL one or two times should take care of any adjustment the spring needs, if it doesn't the tube is probably out of spec enough that it should be addressed to use the Bolen parts. Keep in mind that the Bolen spring and follower are intended for use in tuned magazines, they offer capacity that is not available from any other parts on the market but the magazine needs to be set up within a fairly narrow window for them to work as designed. If you bend the spring too far it will stack the rounds like several other popular followers out there, it will probably run fine but the capacity advantage is lost. Jon Merricks
Could be, but it worked for me. They still are a little canted but not so much it comes out of the mag. The feed lips are in spec, not sure about the rest of the mag though.
