Has anyone heard about this awful accident? I don't know if this is the place to post it, so moderator, please move it if you think it fits somewhere else -

Here's a link - http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/27/...tr=U.S._4547353

I'm curious as to the opinions on this tragic accident. I'm thinking that there has to more to this story than is being put out there.

Would/do any of you let young children shoot machine guns? My granddaughter - age 11, shoots my Walther p22. With eagle eye supervision from me and only me. But the first few times she shot it, I held her AND the gun. Full auto????? Not too sure about that.

Thoughts???? Opinions??????

Of course I would let my son shoot machine guns.

Heck he was shooting an MP5 when he was about 11 or so.

But then again he started shooting when he was 5 years old.

For the MP5 I was RIGHT BEHIND HIM with hands "at the ready".

For the first shot we loade a single round in a mag.

Then two.

Then Three

Then Five.

Then when he had PROVEN that he was capable of handling the firearm a full magazine.

All machine guns are not equal. I have several, and the one shot by the kid was in my understanding a Micro-Uzi, not a regular Uzi. The Micro weighs less than half as much and shoots more than twice as fast as its full size counterpart, making a gun that is very difficult to control, even for adults. Letting an 8 year old shoot one is about as responsible as letting the same child ride a full size Harley Davidson, by himself. This never should have happened and someone involved should have known better.

…and to answer your question, for some kids in some situations with the right kind of machine gun and the right kind of supervision yes I would let them shoot one. Would I let a kid shoot a Micro-Uzi, absolutely not.
