NMS
Hello, I need data (charge and OAL) for 185 grain LSWC over W231. Im trying to make 185 PF out of a 5" 1911. Need to get some rounds loaded up ASAP for upcoming training session. Thanks very much in advance, Nick
Flexmoney
Nick, 185's and 231? Don't you have a reloading manual that covers this? (my manual says that 231 won't get you there...MAX load will do 950 fps)
EricW
You're in luck. We have a Knowledge Base section just for this kind of a problem: http://www.brianenos.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard...=42&topic=5 Checking the FAQ / Knowledge Base first can save you a ton of time in lieu of waiting for replies. If that fails, doing a Search can frequently pull up what you need.
NMS
Thanks for taking the time to reply. None of the three reloading manuals I have has any info for W231 and 185 grain LSWC. Nor has many subsequent Google searches etc. Winchesters reloading data also turned up nothing as well as many searches of this forum and others I peruse.....that is why I posted here....but I digress....so again....if anyone has a load that will work....one that will just shoot safely...with W231...making 185 PF not an issue at this point....I would really appreciate it. I'm sitting on 1K of this stuff and need to get it down range! Thanks, Nick PS Flex, What manual do you have?
Patrick Sweeney
well then, load the old standby, 185 lswc and 6.0 of WW-231. A fave of those who didn't want to use 200's and 5.8 in the old days. I'm convinced that the reason a lot of manuals stop with 185's in the 850 fps region was the Bullseye factor: "who needs the recoil, and leading is bad with soft bullets"
NMS
Many thanks Patrick.... Nick
Flexmoney
Flex, What manual do you have? Sierra - Handgun, 4th Edition They list a max of 950fps with their 185g bullets &
InTheBlack
Pat- what velocity does the "standby" of 5.8 gr W-231 give for 185 gr LSWC? And velocity of 5.8 gr for a 200gr LSWC? I don't have a chrono, but I've been using 5.5 gr. I'm wondering what increase in velocity I'd get & if its worth it for the added recoil & leading.
