Big Bear
I just ordered a Match in 40S&W and would like to hear how anyone out there has set thiers up and what to expect when shooting IDPA and Production class USPSA. I've been shooting a tuned Limited for about a year now (with the help of Henning) and got to a point with some competitions that I needed a pistol a little more stock (looking). Thanks in advance for all your help.
mike_pinto
Are you going to turn it into double action to shoot production? I had mine setup for Limited with a magwell and upgraded sights. All I did internally is a 13lb hammer spring, smooth out the trigger bow, Hennings XL firing pin, and played around with recoil springs until it ran/felt great. I need to get the new owner of it to post some pictures.. M
Big Bear
Thanks Mike. What is envolved to make it DA? If I forget about USPSA Production, does it have to be DA for IDPA? Did you ever have any trouble with the sear? If you could get pics posted that would be great. Thanks again.
J-Ho
The gun works great for IDPA ESP. ESP allows single action. It fits in the box and comes in just under weight too. If you are going the production route I'd go with a Stock.
mike_pinto
No trouble with the sear to speak of. I couldnt even tell you where to start to make it D/A though. I think J-Ho is right about the Stock though for production. I dont shoot IDPA (I like cleaning 3/4 full mags ) I will talk with Sean to see if he can post 'em.. Nemo
There's a very good deal on a Match 40 in the classifieds right now.
Dave Gundry
The Match is not legal for Production, and cannot be made legal (easily). The slide is longer than any of the DA/SA guns, so even if you convert it to DA/SA, it's still a no-go.
Big Bear
Thanks guys for the continued input. Based on the trouble I had with my limited let me ask if you think I'm on the right road. I will probably: replace the front site with FO replace the sear and hammer with Hennings replace the hammer spring and the recoil spring to Hennings And polish and smooth the trigger/action Does that sound like a good plan to everyone? What else/different would you do?
Neomet
Toss an X-long firing pin in there, particularly if you reduce the hammer spring weight (which you should do).
Sean.McCanne
I'm the new match owner Mike was talking about earlier. I've only shot it once, but it was smooth and easy to fire. First, pics are upcoming. Second, I have a bunch of stuff on order from Henning (I made his next car payment). I have coming some USPSA 141 mags, and one of the new fiber front sights, recoil springs, etc. I'll get that all done this weekend, and then I'll be able to give a better report on it. Sean.McCanne
Ok, I've got the pics as it is for now. Next week it will be a little more limited-ready. There isn't a magwell for the match yet, but Mike cut off the front and cleaned out the inside a bit to make it fit. He also thinned out the front sight, but after I get the new fiber sight, it'll be a bit easier to see. Time for a Newcastle. Sean
Hallmatt
All of those enhancements sound great and the magwell is an excellent addition. if you are using high capacity magazines with grams follower, the slide stop pin can also be upgraded. Big Bear
that is a great looking pistol. Would it be IDPA legal with the may well?
J-Ho
that is a great looking pistol. Would it be IDPA legal with the may well? I think that magwell would be legal. A friend has one and if I remember it fits the box. I
Sean.McCanne
that is a great looking pistol. Would it be IDPA legal with the may well? Looks like it would be legal for IDPA ESP, but I only glanced over the allowed modifications list. I got all of my new parts today from Henning. 12# spring, fiber sight, ambi safety, DOH and mags. The sight looks really good, but I have to sight it in. The rear sight is way high now. I need to go run a couple hundred rounds through it tomorrow. The safety will go in on Monday. Big Bear
Sean, Let me know how it shoots. I should get my Match Monday or Tuesday and will start on it right away.
Sean.McCanne
Well, the gun shoots really well. My load is a bit hot yet, and I didn't have a chance to try the 10# spring, just the 12#. The fiber front sight provides a nice clear sight picture. I'll post about that on the front sight thread. I'll have the safety done on Monday and I'll try the lighter spring. I'll get some chrono numbers then, too. I've got to do some drawing drills because I am not used to the DOH yet. It pulls out from my hip when I draw. I have it on exactly on my side. Would moving it forward help out with that? The match is a great gun, and Henning's parts make it even better. Enjoy shooting it, Bear. We don't all have as big of guts as it appears on the range, just really tight belts!! (that's what I keep telling myself) Since the weight is so low when your gun is in the DOH, if there is not enough tension in the belt loop holder thingy, it will flop at the bottom away from you.. And remember to Loc-tite your sight!! Okay, that was low.

I'll be lucky if Kurt stops laughing long enough to install my safety. Oh, and I'm going to loctite in the old sight. Sean
