Does it bother anyone else that they started putting up the channel in the lower corner of the screen? Then after that was there for a while the got bolder and have some popup crap that covers a third of the screen. Hell some of those things have slashing graphics that are very hard to ignore. Not that I watch a lot of TV, but when I do I don't need commercials during the show as well as every five mins. I was even watching a pretty good sub-titles movie the other day and the damn network logo was blocking part of the text, so I couldn't read it! :angry2:

This viewing outrage has been ticking me off gradually more and more every month. Yes, they started out small, innocent, and with no great space taken up--and no animations. Lo 'n frickin' behold NOW, though, the promos are HUUUUGE and ANIMATED and take up 25-30% of the screen at any given moment! I'm annoyed beyond belief. These things should be reduced back to their original size!!!! But like every OTHER give-'em-an-inch-and-they'll-take-a-mile opportunity, it's unlikely.

...However, an e-mail or blog campaign might have some impact if done correctly and with suitable vehemence. :angry2:

I have DirecTV as my provider. Their program guide is nice and robust, and you can even search out a week or more for upcoming shows to record. One of their new tactics is to place ads in the guide, between 2 channel listings. My new tactic is to call tech support to open an incident and explain about the messages that suddenly appeared.

After wasting as much time as I can be a bit unclear with my descriptions, they'll usually catch on and tell me it an ad. To which I reply, "Fine, Now that you know what it is, make it go away. I bought a service that includes your fine channel guide -- not advertisements."

When it happened last week I got kicked over to a supervisor in the Customer Service group who told me over and over that there was nothing they could do. So I had him pull up my account and tell me when my contractual obligation would be complete -- Dec 20th. "Thanks. Expect a cancellation order on Dec 21st since I'll be changing providers."

15 minutes later the ads were gone...

Since we're on the topic of entertainment....

What do I hate?

#1

Trying to watch a TV Show, and having to WADE through TONS of commercials. This time of year, is even worse.

I won't watch live TV any more. I record everyting on the DVR, and buzz through the commercials. Even if it is something that I want to watch now, I'll record it, shut if off and turn it on a half-hour later. About the only Live TV on have on all day is FoxNews playing in the background. Of course, I don't pay attention to the commercials.

#2

Going to the movies, plunking down a good chunk of cash to watch a movie, and having to sit through COMMERCIALS at the beginning. How much do they have to charge to get rid of the commercials?

#3

How about sitting their, getting pumped up for the movie, and having someone stick a can in your face asking for money? Personally, I think that they'd be better off putting a can on the counter near the register. If I want to dump my change, I'll do it then. Once I have my butt in the seat, I'm ready to eat munchies and watch a darn movie!

#4

How about blow-hard entertainers pushing their values on me? These guys/gals/? make millions, and they are trying to tell me how I should vote, live, eat, whatever. I have an idea, SHUT THE F*** UP, AND SING, DANCE, ACT, OR WHATEVER ELSE YOU DO FOR A LIVING! Nobody asks a mechanic, bank manager, carpenter, ... what he/she thinks? Well, maybe Joe the Plumber is the exception.

Thank you for listening.
