BritinUSA
There is an Apple event due on October 14th to unveil some new MacBooks. Rumours abound that that prices could be starting around $800 which is a big cut from the current $1000+. If you are thinking of buying a MacBook then it may be worth your while to wait a few days. In theory this could also drive a boost to the Apple stock price.

BritinUSA
Looks like the white MacBook has dropped to $999 and two new models, a 13" MacBook ($1300) and a new 15" MacBook Pro ($2000). Both made from a single brick of aluminium.
davidwiz
The White Macbook is the old model, with the plastic case and Intel graphics processor - that is the one that is $999. The new Macbooks are black-ish in colour, have aluminum cases, and the new graphic processor.
BritinUSA
Mini Review: I just stopped by at the local Apple Store to check out the new MacBooks. They appear very solid. The one-piece case makes it appear much less fragile than the previous models. The screen is crystal clear and glossy. I was a little concerned about the glare on the screen but getting it at the right angle seemed to solve the problem. The display automatically dims when the lights go down, there is a small hidden sensor next to the iSight camera. The screen closes and locks with what I assume is some kind of magnetic latch. It seems very secure. Keyboard is much better than my existing PowerBook and the touchpad is awesome. It works the same way as the iPhone/iPod Touch. The entire pad clicks downward to serve the purpose of the previous buttons. It takes a little getting used to but after about 5 minutes it felt natural. The touchpad is made of glass but seems to be coated with something and is very slick and sensitive. There is a lack of firewire port that may affect those with digital video cameras that use that form of connectivity. The 2.4Gz is a few hundred dollars more than the 2.0Gz and you get about another 90Gb on the hard-drive. I was sorely tempted to purchase the $1299 model on the spot but I try to take a few days before making a big purchase such as this. It's a great looking laptop. davidwiz
I writing this on the new 13" 2GHz Macbook ($1,299) that my gf just got. The keyboard is different that previous apple laptops, the touch pad is really neat, and to me, the bottom of the computer doesn't get as hot as the previous plastic models. The screen is much brighter than the one on my older Macbook Pro.

davidwiz
Apple is offering 90 day interest free financing via Juniper Visa. Apple is also selling all of the discontinued models (computers and iPods).
