z40acp
I am going to try and shoot a 38 super single stack and would like some help with the load. I am going to use a lead { RCBS 124 CN } bullet. Does anyone have some experience with either Solo 1000 or WST in 38 super minor? I don't have access to VV320 but have a lot of different powders available. Does it take just a little slower powder? If so, what do you suggest? I know I am asking alot with lead bullets but, no excess smoke and somewhat clean are things I am looking for. Thanks Edited September 28, 2008 by z40acp

I still havent shot up the 8lb keg I purchased. It is a soft accurate load in my gun, and 2 others we have tried it in.
Al Capizzo
I've been shooting something similar with Winchester Super Target. With a 115 gr Precision and a 121 MG JHP I'm using 4.4 grains. I like it. Soft, clean, relatively little smoke.
z40acp
Thanks scirocco38s, today a friend let me borrow his Hodgdon 2004 manual and it has data like yours for hp38 { supposed to be 231 }. Looks like 5.1 might be a good start. Al, I think WST is great powder. It is what I use in my .40. I will try 4.4. Thanks Does anyone have an idea for Solo 1000? Ed Robinson
5.0grs w231 under a 125 LaserCast TC runs right around 1050 (I haven't chrony'd yet but thats about where they should be). Shoots very accurately in my open para and is soft shooting. WST should work pretty well. I have a buddy that shoots it in his 40 for Bianchi loads. mrmetalweld57
When I was shooting super I used 4.7 of solo 1000 for a p.f. of 138, 5.6 made 158. Hope this helps. Ed
Allgoodhits
From my tubes, these .38 Super "jacketed" loads work well..... 115's W231 5.2 +/- WST 4.7 +/- 125's W231 4.9 +/- WST 4.5 +/- MJ
uscbigdawg
Since I switched back to a 124gr. CMJ for my 172 PF major loads, my steel load started with just dropping down to a 115. From there I adjusted my charge of N350 to 7.5grains (instead of my major 8.5). For steel, I don't want a poofer load. I want a nice, positive push from the gun with enough velocity in the bullet to get to the steel quickly. Rich
