steel1212 Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Ok every single springfield 1911 I own has a .070 FP. I thought the .45s would be .075 but nop all of those are .070 as well. I have everything from a TRP, MC Operator, Loaded black stainless, loaded 9mm, loaded .40 and all of them....0.070. Question 1: Right now I'm running the dawson hyper drive in the .40 and 9mm and I think its a .065 or .068 do you think there would be any problem with this? Question 2: I've been told not to run a extended pin in a .45 by some and others are doing it. Why or Why not? With this question since all my Springers FP are the same size I was thinking of using the dawson to help with a slight light strike issue with 17# MS. Yes it runs fine with a 19# but I would like it to run fine with a 17# and I know it can be done as people I shoot with have theirs setup with a 17#. Question 3: If valid reasons to not run a Hyper drive in a .45 then what pin would you use?
Canuck-IL Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 I just clipped a few coils from the FPS - no more light hits. /Bryan

Aircooled6racer Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Hello: Check that the mainspring cap moves up and down freely in the mainspring housing. The bore in the housing should be smooth with no machining marks or high spots. Thanks, Eric
LPatterson Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 +1 on the mainspring housing. When I took the lock out I replaced it with an S&A mag well and a 15# spring with Ti cap.
steel1212 Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 I have a SA housing, but I'll check for burrs.

Canuck-IL Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Using what Ti Pin? 17#MS? Std SA titanium fring pin, SA spring now minus a few coils ... I think it was a 19# main that had light hits. On my BE gun and hardball guns, I drilled out the tunnel to take a std steel firing pin. /B

It has a light strike 2 per 100 or so and that is just to many. Like I said I know I can put the 19 in and be safe and I might just do that but I would like it to work with a 17.
Canuck-IL Posted September 21, 2008 Posted September 21, 2008 Well then, back to where I started - trim a few coils. /B
steel1212 Posted September 21, 2008 Author Posted September 21, 2008 Well then, back to where I started - trim a few coils./B Yeah, basically that is what I did. I detail cleaned it and trimmed a few coils off the FP spring. I might polish up the SA magwell/MS housing tube as well.
uscbigdawg Posted September 22, 2008 Posted September 22, 2008 Great question. I think that my mainspring might be a bit worn and THAT's the gremlin that I've been chasing for about 2 months. Still doesn't fix the high primers coming out of my 1050 though. Rich
