SIXXgun Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 What is the difference between an STI mag and a PARA mag as far as seating goes? I see STI used to amke mags for PARA's but do not anymore. I was thinking about buying a couple STI tubes and modifying them to run in a P16/40. I'm thinking all I have to do to get them to seat in the PARA is take up the mag release catch slot in the side of the tube. Any thoughts or experiences?
TeamGE Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Hello Sixxgun, The standard STI mag will seat low in the Para frame. The since now discontinued STI/Para mag tube had the mag catch hole located lower on the tube, thus seating higher in the Para frame at the right height. To use the standard STI mag tube in the Para frame, you will need to weld up the mag catch hole and re-machine it lower, or weld up the mag catch itself, and re-machine it with a higher catch shelf/edge.
davecutts Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I run para, sti and svi mags in my Para's (open and limited) with no problems.
Big Bore Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Standard SV or STI tubes run fine in my Para. But why not use the Para Mags? Mine run great with the Dawson Base pads and the stock follower and stock springs.
steel1212 Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 When I had a para the STI mags ran fine in it. I would start with the para mags, I could get more in them, and reload to the STIs as they reloaded easier having a better angle to the mag.
TonyT Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 I have some brand new 170mm STI mags for the Para Ordnance listed for sale in the Classifieds section.
