SammyK Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Okay, I hope i am asking this in the right forum. I am thinking about getting into some IDPA and USPSA shooting as it apears to be alot of fun. I have a few guns currently and I am thinking about buying Glock 34 or 35 or an EAA limited in 9mm or .40 to possibly use in both disciplines. I am just unsure what the wise choice in caliber is and how do the two guns compare. I know it is not really a great comparison as they are two completely different guns in different price ranges. Just looking for some experienced advise.
ajg308 Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Go with .40, it crosses over and can be loaded to feel like a 9mm.
Filishooter Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 (edited) 40 is more versatile but 9mm is cheaper to shoot. If you plan to only shoot IDPA and Production get the G34. If you want the EEA get the 40 to shoot in Limited Class. There is no point in getting the 9mm Limited unless you want to shoot Limited minor, the gun isn't on the Production approved list so you can't use it there. Not sure if you can use it in IDPA either (maybe in ESP class?) Look at the EEA Witness Elite STOCK in 9mm, Ithink its both IDPA and Production legal. Edited September 5, 2008 by Filishooter
Aircooled6racer Posted September 5, 2008 Posted September 5, 2008 Hello: Get the Glock 34 for IDPA and USPSA. That way you can use factory ammo or reload. I found the G34 better than the G35 at minor loads. I can't tell you why but the G34 with 147 Precision bullets is sweet. I have sold both my G34 and G35 but if I buy another Glock it will be a G34. Hope this helps. Thanks, Eric
SammyK Posted September 6, 2008 Author Posted September 6, 2008 Thanks for the advice guys. I did forget to mention in my first post that i am not reloading at this time either and that is a factor as well.

G34. Or a G17----some people prefer the shorter gun. My current Production gun is a 2nd gen G17 police trade-in. $350. Ammo. Atlanta Arms is sweet. For local purchase, I like Remington/UMC 115 gr FMJ.
joseywales Posted September 6, 2008 Posted September 6, 2008 A G34, factory ammo, 5 mag pouches, CR Speed belt, Uncle-Mike's holster, and 6 magazines is a competitive and economical entry into the USPSA Production and/or IDPA SSP world. Save your once-fired factory brass...you'll reload someday.
SammyK Posted September 8, 2008 Author Posted September 8, 2008 Is there much difference in accuracy between the 17 and 34? Doesn't the 34 have a lighter trigger ou tof the box? I have heard that the 3.5 # trigger is mushy, is that true?

I have used both the 17 & 34 before i desided to use the 34 for a match gun.The extra sight radias won out for me.As far as the trigger goes the 34 has a 3.5 disconect & the 17 has a 5.5 disconect, out of the box but it's a cheep part to buy and easy to install.I say try both then deside for you'rself.Steve is correct too, save you're brass. If u shoot long enouf u will be reloading soon, then u can try 147gr precisions over wsf powder.Best load i've found yet. Good luck,Rick
Flexmoney Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Thanks for the advice guys. I did forget to mention in my first post that i am not reloading at this time either and that is a factor as well. This is a no-brainer then. Unless you are a very solvent multi-millionaire...if you aren't reloading, then you should shoot 9mm.

SammyK Posted September 9, 2008 Author Posted September 9, 2008 Thanks for all the advice everyone. Sounds like the 34 is a good place to start for a match gun. I just need to unload my XD and get the 34 on order. Thanks again to all.
