PistolPete
I was planning on stripping my 1911 to do a thorough cleaning of it but am a little nervous about taking the gun apart completely because I want to make sure it will all go back together correctly. Anyone have any info about reassembly of the hammer, sear, disconnector, mainspring, mainspring housing, safety etc.? If you have something online with diagrams that would be best. I have a book but it doesn't really explain reassembly. I've seen it done before and I'm about 95% confident I won't have any problems but that 5% of me is a bit nervous. Thanks for any help. tightloop
Just call Steve Anderson, he's got it figured out now. Seriously, I don't have anything with pictures, I learned how to do it watching my 'smith do it 25 times while he did a trigger job on my pistol. Steve Anderson
Ha.... I got mine back together, you can too. I used "the custom gov't model" as a reference. I'm sure someone here can find you an online diagram. Duane also posted a good step by step a couple days ago. Search a little... SA
Skywalker
If searching for on-line diagrams fails, I would suggest ordering Ed Brown's "1911 bench reference": I found it to be a quite comprehensive (and illustrated) book on what you can do on your gun with basic tools and little bit of hand skills.
