shooterbenedetto Posted August 29, 2008 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Age 35 HT 5'11 weight 220lbs, flat footed. I do wear my orthotics when I shoot. It started 3 months ago, when I was walking to another berm and all of a sudden I felt a sharp pain and felt like my something in my knee was misaligned? I tried bending it in and out and still today, it feels like a bone or ligament is misalined or something? I've been shooting for about 7 years now and from the beginning, the old timers gave me advice to use knee braces as it would help my own knee for the sudden run and stop of this sport. I didn't listen and now I believe I have PCL on the left knee. The pain is always behind my knee and I have a hard time bend it out completely. There is always a clicking noise when I bend it out at about 80%. If I massage deep behind my knee, it actually improves the leg circulation and it feels like my leg is lighter, and I get my flexibility as if my legs were 15yrs old again? anybody has the same condition? what is your treatment? I went to my doctor and she told me that I have a hamstring muscle pulled? well, I dont pull my hamstring daily and it is not suppose to hurt every morning. Just looking for some remedy. get2now Posted August 29, 2008 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Go see a physical therapist. I went to one when I snapped my ACL and during the course of rehabilitation I developed a clicking too. They did something like a deep tissue massage that cured the problem. It still happens occasionally but I know where to massage it now. badchad Posted August 29, 2008 Share Posted August 29, 2008 Just from your description it sounds like a torn meniscus. I might be wrong but if I were taking your history that’s what I would suspect. I’d see an orthopedic surgeon, they will probably either have you get an MRI or prescribe physical therapy for a while to give that a chance. If it’s a good size tear the therapy won’t fix it and you will need to have “a procedure.” As far as surgeries go a meniscectomy is pretty minor and rehab afterwards is usually pretty fast with minimal pain (usually). I also hurt my knee at work a couple of years ago, I now have a tear in it. I probably should get it looked at but unless it gets worse I won't. I started working out again and started taking Glucosamine and it really helped out. I run 4 miles 4-5 times a week. I know my knee were killing me prior to me taking it and they don't really bother me anymore. Go see a doctor and see what they say and add some Glucosamine. Flyin Thanks flyin40, I remember that when I use to lift weights. I use to take glucosamine. Helps lubricate joints. I just came back from the weekend match and wore the sports adjustable knee strap. Wow! that really helps. I will buy another from rite aide that cost me about $12.00 my knee is not too much stressed.. i will now wear it on both legs. Ya, I was thinking a meniscus tear too. I have done this twice while shooting competitions (and running, and running in my 65lbs of gear, etc). I find it's planting the foot and turning, bad ju-ju, and happens a lot in shooting USPSA/IDPA. See a specialist. I have been fortunate enough to have small tears on the outer portion of the meniscus that healed. A deep tear in the center of the meniscus might require a simple keyhole surgery to correct. ITBS Physical therapist gave me some great exercises for it and they work. If I wasn't married already, I would find me a physical therapist to live with I would treat her like a queen just for the pain relief I could get.
