.45 230 fmj loads

Recommended Posts

I remember looking at a post where someone spoke of a load with a 230 fmj that performed well in most guns.  I think the powder was ww-231 but I can't remember and now I can't find the post.   For some reason i remember another post also where Patrick posted a couple of loads that he had good success with in most 1911's.  I've been shooting montana gold 200 rnfp and some 185  jhp's.  I wanted to try a 230fmj at around 750 to see if the "feel" is any better or worse.  Any load data would be much appreciated.  I have Bullseye, ww-231, Unique, vv-310-320-550.

  • 8 years later...

I've been using a lot of 231 lately for the 230 FMJ (Precision Delta). About 5.1 gr. & 1.25 OAL gives a very comfortable load for punching paper. Similar feel for BE loaded at 4.2 - 4.4 gr.

Evidently had my head where the sun don't shine when I stated my load above. Didn't use wsp primers. Federal Large Pistol of course, seated deep. DUH!

Buckaroo45: I use the same load 4.1 gr Clays under Rainier 230 gr plated bullets with your corrected FEDERAL primers in 4" and 5" 625...and seated deep with 7-7.5 DA trigger pull.

I like the soft shooting of the Clays, also use it in 12 ga shotgun and 3.9-4.0 with WSP primers for my 1911 match load.

Excellent choice, Sir!
