Taking a break from training this week. I will be shooting USPSA this sunday Oct 26th. I will post results when I get them.

I am doing a little test to see what will happen if I dont train this week and just go shoot a match. I will also post the results of this little test.

USPSA Match today at local club. I shot very well today I was consistent only had 1 D and no Mikes I did have 1 penalty for an extra shot ooops. The first stage I started off a little slow which is ok because I don't want to tank the first stage out of the gate. After the first stage I got in the groove.

It takes me a stage to get in the groove I will be working on this more. I felt really smooth today I did have a little bit of trouble on some poppers I was not seeing what I needed to and rushing the shot. It was a great day for shooting! Taking a week of from training I think I came out pretty good. I think some of what I have learned in my training I was trying to duplicate or "trying" to shoot the targets when I should just be shooting the targets with out thought! So taking this week off of training kind of cleared my cluttered mind. I probably will only shoot 1 match next month. I will continue my training this week (only twice per week).

Well I haven't trained since 10/16/08. I will not be training this week either. There is a USPSA match this weekend 11/8/08 that I will be attending. We will see how it goes with out any training in 2weeks. I will post the results when I get them. This might be the last month for shooting matches and I will be taking a long awaited break which I think is good and will help. I still plan on reading as much as possible about improving my shooting mentally and physically. I am also going to stock up on reloading supplies for next year. I plan on hitting a few major matches which I did not get to do this year. Indiana Sectional and State championship is for sure on the list I will post a list of others later.

Airsoft training

I found that today I wasn't following through on my second shots I was snapping my eyes before the second shot was complete. I settled in on the last few runs felt a lot smoother. Slowed the splits down a bit which allowed me to transition to the next target smoother. Time to start pushing need to get over the hump!.

Read this Topic yesterday and is something I my self need to get back to.

Topic found HERE

This really hit home.

"Forget transitions and splits. Those are just words used to describe the time something takes.

Call your shots. The time depends on how fast you see the sights for the next shot. That's all it is."

Matt Cheely

Thanks Matt!

Went pretty good today I had a little trouble on the farther target I didn't see the sights as clear as I needed to. Pulled some c hits on this target. I need to make sure to get a clearer sight picture on the harder shots. Training continues tomorrow. No mikes or D hits today.

Well this season is coming to a close. Time to set some goals for next season.

Goals for next season no particular order.

  • Make every shot count(less makeup shots)
  • Shoot more major matches(didn't shoot any this season)
  • Better mental game and stage strategy/breakdown
  • More live fire practice(didn't do any this season)
  • Make master class in Limited by end of next season
  • continue airsoft training
  • Reduce penalties in matches local/Major
  • Shoot more in general (Have to look but I think I only shot about 3,800rds this season)

Airsoft training

120rds.

Today I noticed if I wasn't aggressive (trying to get good hits) my hits were not good. As I became more aggressive my hits got better. I think this is do to "trying" to shoot the targets when I should just shoot the targets with out any thought! Just let it happen. I also think for me not being aggressive I get out of tune my mind gets cluttered with do this do that now do this see that ext...... Shooting aggressively, it does not give my brain a chance to think about it. I know what I need to do with out thought so just let it happen. This was a good lesson of being aware of what is happening in my training.

I was thinking about my training from yesterday why I struggled. I was going into my training with expectations of the out come when I should be training with an open mind (without expectations) and just shoot and observe what is happening.

Just a thought.

I noticed today that I wasn't seeing the target like I should causing bad hits once I noticed this everything came together. "Just see the target!" (still seeing the sights but kind of looking through the sights seeing what I need to see to make the shots) Things smoothed out and the hits got a lot better.

Day off of training tomorrow.

Yesterday 240rds

Today 360rds.

Getting back to the fundamentals. I have been having trouble in practice due to a speed focus which I think sometimes is good but I need to pull back and get my hits. I have been having trouble with stopping the gun on target. I am getting back to perfect practice for a while following the proper firing cycle in every detail. It is working for getting my points back.(alphas at my current natural speed).

Day off today.

Today I thought about putting a green fiber rod in my front sight.(I currently have a fiber optic sight but the fiber is painted black) I cut the painted black rod out and installed a green rod. The problem is just what I thought with a colored rod. The rod washes out the top of the front blade(I can't see the top of the front blade this is not good for tight or long distance shots.) When I first started shooting I think the rod helped me to have a front sight focus and acquire the sight faster.(when I was learning how to acquire the front sight.) Now that I have evolved I acquire the sight much quicker now with out the need of a colored rod. With the rod color washing out the top of the sight I decided to put the black painted rod back in. With a black front sight I think I can be more precise. I also think it makes the shot calling easier because you get the full view of the front sight and not just a glowing dot.

Today I went back to Control/Abandon

I am pushing hard to get over the hump. What I noticed today in the first 120rds when I was pushing hard not worried about the hits. Yes I had misses and bad hits. The second 120rds doing the same thing pushing hard my hits where getting better I had less misses more A's shooting way over the edge. I am able to really start seeing at this speed and when I get no misses and mostly A's I will push even harder.

There is a very good topic about pushing in practice HERE.

Continuing to push hard. The results are getting better I am being able to call my shots at this pace but not at 100% yet. The hits are getting way better than yesterday. Still need a lot of work but I am convinced that my current natural speed will increase. I have a match this sunday weather permitting. This is where I will test if my current natural speed has increased. I will not push in the match just shoot A's at my current natural speed.

Continue Training Thurs. Day off tomorrow.

Continuing to push hard today. The hits are getting better. I am pushing harder than I ever have in practice. On the last 36 rounds I backed off a little and got my hits back to where they need to be. I did notice when I backed off that it seemed so easy to get my hits (I didn't shoot slow I just backed off enough to get good hits) It just seemed so easy and smooth after really pushing the last few days. Continue training tomorrow.

What a great learning experience.

Last match for me for this season.

Well the first stage (medium field course) went really well shot 99% of the available points. I was seeing and moving smooth reload went great.

The second stage lets just say I did not have the right focus going into it. I had one mike it was a fast paced little course three targets three shots each move to box B three targets three shots each. My mike was on t2 Box A. Trying to shoot to fast big no no! Shot 87% of the available points but with penalty.

Third stage another speed shoot again trying to shoot to fast not letting the sight come back in the notch causing a mike. Again 87% of the available points but with penalty.

4th stage field course went really well I was moving smoothly and the reload was great shot 96% of the available points.

Stage 5 Area 4 Standards found out what I need to work on :surprise: 50yd shots. I only scored 36points

Well it wasn't the best match I ever had I still managed to get 2nd in Limited lost by 3.1394 points.

Taking December off.

The first 120rds I just shot as fast as I could to try to see if my vision could keep up. Well I would snap my eyes to the next target but I couldn't call all my shots but that's ok I am trying to increase my natural speed and the only way I know how to do it is shoot as fast as I can.

The second 120rds I went back to calling all my shots(getting good hits) and watching the front sight come back in the notch. I also am working on my grip which I have been getting lazy with my grip. I have not been getting my weak hand palm pressure against the grip properly it was much better tonight.

Continue tomorrow.

I am re-thinking my training plan for this year.

I need to get more live fire shooting compared to last year I only shot about 4000 rounds. I am able to shoot a match every weekend around here. I think I am going to attend more local matches this year and after the match have short training sessions.

I will dry fire maybe once or twice a week for 15min. I am going to lay off of the airsoft training.

We will see if this is good or not.
