M.E.Anglin
Last night I caught a bit of SASS mounted shooting on the Shooting USA, I could not believe the piss poor gun handling, riding horses and shooting ballons, with the spectators all around the arena they were almost always pulling the trigger with a person in the direction of the muzzle(yea I know they are just shooting blanks, but they are shooting REAL guns) I wrote Jim Scouttin about it and he just blew it off writing back this. "It's their sport, created with blanks so that spectators could safely watch them shoot. Certainly not something you'd see in ground based cowboy action shooting with lead, or something you'd see in IPSC; but it is the sport of Mounted Cowboy Shooting."-Jim Scouttin To me it is not a shooting sport it is a riding sport with unsafe gun handling,if you know and abide by the rules of gun handling I would think you would find this pretty sad
J-Ho
I'm with you to an extent. I'm all for the riding and shooting. However it should be treated like any other shooting sport. Real saftey rules and real bullets. Fighting from horseback is a martial skill. In Japan there are mounted archer competitions. We have a rich history of calvay as well as western traditions in this country. Why not have mounted shooting competition? I understand the desire to draw crowds but I think this should be a shooting sport, not a entertainment for spectators. That being said, I'm not a SASS shooter so they shouldn't listen to me.
