Plus 1 on the VV 310 Laser Cast load! I think a lot of us shooters owe Wilson and especially Pat Sweeney a debt of gratitude for making this load so well known. The best reloading info for a beginner, including this load, I found was in Seeney's book on the 1911 (1st addition). Highly reccomend it to any 1911 reloader....

My favorite load at this time is Montana Gold 200gr JFP with 5.2 to 5.4 gr VV N320. My Les Baer and Wilson like 5.2 best and my Kimber Super Match likes 5.4. These loads have been the most accurate for me out of many I have tested.

Montana Gold 185 Grain JHP

4.3 grains N-310

Federal 150 Primer

OAL: 1.208 | Crimp: .471

Thanks D. Manley this info on the Montana Gold 185JHP is exactly what I was searching for. Hey do you know the power factor for your load ? I'm loading for a 1911 5" Kimber .

4.3 grains of VV N310, .45 ACP 200 gr LSWC Laser Cast bullet. Very accurate load. Easily makes major PF, low recoil and clean.

Everything he said, with the exception of powder charge. Mine is 4.4 grs.

Wilson used VV 310/200 gr. LSWC to test my pistol. The group was either.63 or .68 inch at 15 yards off their bench. It has proven to be very accurate for me, too.

It's a guess but I'd say in the upper 130's / lower 140's...a very soft load but Minor PF should be no problem with your 5" gun.

All loads are fired from a S&W 625

230gr CMJ

5.0gr/N320

Velocity = 672

PF = 154

230gr CMJ

5.2gr/N320

Velocity = 712

PF = 163

230gr CMJ

5.5gr N320

Velocity = 743

PF = 170

230gr CMJ

4.0gr/N310

Velocity = 646

PF = 148

I haven't got to chrono higher charges of N310 as of yet - too bloody cold.

FWIW Federal AE 230gr chrono'd at 789fps and PF'd at 181.
