G-ManBart
I understand what they lose in speed to the target they make up in shots on target and target to target transition. hmmmmmm... My take is the opposite. I think that plenty of shooters can run splits and transition with them. They are gaining time in other areas. Watch the vids on Taran's site and notice how soon he is shooting when going to the next position. +1 A lot of guys can shoot fast splits and transitions....that's almost a dime a dozen. That's why you can watch a two people shoot a stage and have it sound about the same (split and transition wise) and then find out that one of them was three seconds faster than the other....getting in and getting out are where it's at. Turtle
Watch the vids on Taran's site and notice how soon he is shooting when going to the next position. As usual, Flex nailed it. I understand what rkgsmith was trying to say though and I think it may appear that they are out of control because of how quickly they are getting the shots off. I've seen them on several occasions breaking shots before the gun is even mounted or while they are looking at something else (i.e. the next target). Maybe we should be less worried about how we appear and just get (good) shots off. BTW, great quote Rob! +1 on Angus as well, very smooth shooter! mwx40x40
They look that way because they are so relaxed.
Flexmoney
There is something to that as well. With all the cameras we are getting "downrange"...with the remotes, we get to see the shooters from the front more. If you take a look at some of those pics, you might notice that the top shooters have a look of relaxed attention going on.
OlliesRevenge
This thread prompted me to watch a bunch of Taran Butler videos on YouTube. I'm not experienced enough to comment on the "out of control" issue, he just looks like an elite shooter to me. I noticed something in the video below that has me wondering though. I won't comment on it, except to say listen carefully to the buzzer, and look closely at his R hand, particularly on the 2nd COF in the vid. Does anyone else see what I see? Is this common? Flexmoney
The audio on many of the videos that we see are not in sync. I don't think we can draw any conclusions there. it's pretty common for the audio to be off.

I noticed this as well months ago, I tried several different computers with different connection speeds and it does get closer on a higher bandwidth but not close enough ??? OlliesRevenge
Thanks for all the replies, The sound is out of sync with the video. Notice you hear the mag seat after he completes the reload. I went back and listened closely to the mag changes after reading your post, and I do "hear" what you are are saying here. There does seem to be an audio lag during some other parts of the video, and an audio lag would logically explain it. I only brought it up because I recently took an RO class and was told (by a good authority) that the random start on a shot timer should not be used when running a COF at a match. I was surprised by this, because IMO, using the random start feature would eliminate the possibility of what I thought I saw on the video from happening. In addition, using the random start would not appear to conflict with Rule 8.3.3, which states: "Standby" - This command should be followed by the start signal within 1-4 seconds. Flexmoney
I'm about the only CRO-type that seems to like the random start feature of the timers. (but, that is a discussion for another thread...in fact, we have threads discussing it)
