rr4406pak
Bought a brand new 126mm STI 40S&W mag from Brownells. After using it for the first time at a match the basepad started popping off (halfway) after about the 4th drop on the indoor concrete. I just pushed the basepad back on untill the little star thingy in the middle clicked it back into place. Is there anyway to prevent this or do I need to buy an aftermarket basepad? Thanks. HSMITH
You can spread the lips just a bit and tighten it up, but there is a good reason the aftermarket hasall but completely ignored that type of retention, it doesn't work all that well for what we do. The real key is that it is cheap to make and pretty good quality for what it costs.
yoshidaex
arredondo has a retainer that is slightly taller than the stock STI star. That may help a bit but as far as using an aftermarket basepads, the ones for the 126mm pads still utilize the retainer as the ones that come from the factory. rr4406pak
HSMITH, What type of retention is better? yoshidaex, Then how come I see the basepads on the 140mm mags that don't have the "star" retention device? Why can't these starless type of base pads be used on a 126mm mag? I guess I'm confused on the different types of basepad retention.. yoshidaex
126mm mag tubes and the non "star" type basepads (grams and dawson toolless to name a few) won't fit due to clearance issues. 140 mm mags stick out just far enough so you can use grams, dawson or any other type of basepad. This is taking into consideration you have a magwell attached to your S_I.
HSMITH
I think I would look at the SV wedge pads if it were mine.
steel1212
I use the STI international pads on my 126 9mm mags. I've never had them pop off, hell its a pain just to get them off!
