Alaskapopo
I have a small amount of N320 to play with and I have a 8 pound keg of tight group. I am loading in a STI edge to a oal of 1.20. Can you give me some ideas of some good major power factor loads using a 180 grain FMJ winchester bullet? Thanks Pat

Jaxshooter
I load 5.0 gr of N-320 with a 180gr Zero JHP, WSRP at 1.180 AOL for my SV Sight Tracker. It is right at 171 power factor. Hope this helps. Start lower and work your way up.

G-ManBart
My Edge needs around 4.8-4.9gr of N320 to make 171pf at 1.20"....varies a little with different bullets. You might want to try something like 4.5gr and work up in tenths.
Dave Marques
I can do 169 PF with a 180 loaded to 1.125" OAL-BUT that is in a G35! 4.75 of N320 BTW for that load.
RePete
Start around 4.7 for Titegroup. That's the load I have for my STI Trojan. PF = 177.
ebg3
5.2 gr 320 with MG FMJ 180 and a WSR primer OAL = 1.20". This in my 5" Eagle with 150,000 rds through it. I would try 5.0 gr and chrono it. EG
Fullauto_Shooter
My Para P16 is very worn and shoots a bit slower than most but this recipe delivers 169 PF for me: 180gr MG CMJ 5.12gr N320 (AVG of 10 powder throws) WSP OAL: 1.195 Mixed Brass

With those powders there is no need to be at 1.200. Bring it down to 1.175 or so and you'll get away with less (expensive) powder. Try 4.7gr TG with a 180 bullet at 1.175" Try 4.8gr N320 with 180 bullet at 1.175" Some barrels are "faster" than others, so load accordingly. 38superman
The standard load for my SVI is 5.1 of N320 behind 180 Zero JHP, WSP and WW or Starline Brass. I load to OAL of 1.175" This produces a power factor of around 173. This allows enough margin for any variations due to temps or chronograph readings from match to match. TG is my powder of choice for the .45 but I'm not as happy with it in the .40 It is more temperature sensitive than most of the other powders I use. That plus the fact that it seems to run at lower velocities in my gun. Most folks report making major at around 4.7 w/ 180 bullets. I have gone up to 4.8 and only got 160 pf. To get to major with a comfortable margin I would probably need at least 5.0 grains. I'm not sure I am willing to do that in a high pressure cartridge and a powder that's temp sensitive. I'll stick with N320. Tls Edited February 23, 2008 by 38superman
