Benelli Rear Sight

Anybody have measurements for installing a 10/22 or XS rear sight on a 21" Benelli rib?

I have a HiViz FO front sight installed right now, but need something a little more accurate for long distance slugs.

Thanks

Not sure what you mean by measurements? cut whatever the proper dovetail is for the chosen sight, and place the sight over a solid section on the rib, preferably. as far back as it will work. the 10/22 can go back on the lowered portion of the rib and the XS needs to go on the raised portion.

If you want pics let me know I've got them with both styles of sights.

I wasn't sure if they needed to be a certain distance from the front of the receiver to get the proper elevation.

Pics would be nice too.

Thanks

Not to diss those with the 10/22 rear sight.....it is the first class way to go, but....

using the front-sight bead on the vent rib works great for me so far. Point of impact is exactly at top of bead elevation wise. "Windage" is where it get harder with a vent rib SG since there is little to gauge left-to-right position by. So I put a small white stripe (pencil mark wide) where the rib on the barrel tapers down into the receiver. This way I have a quick left-right reference to use with front bead.

So far I've only range tested out to 30 yds, but its spot-on at this distance.

I posted my Benelli rear sight fix awhile back but here are some pics again. Using a dremel I made a shalow long groove as pictured and filled it with white paint. Has lasted a year and still looks perfect. It shoots to point of aim at 50yds on mine. farther out you have to dope the slugs trajectory (like with any sight)

One more question. My gun shoots slugs high, and this rear sight looks higher than the rib. I'm guessing I'll have to raise the front sight to work with the 10/22 rear. Did anyone else have to raise their front sight?

don't worry about raising anything until you put the rear sight on there and shoo it. tackle one problem at a time, I'll bet you that it works out. my trajectory with slugs on one of my guns is poa at 25, 3-4 inches hi at 50, zero at 75, and 6" low at 100.

one shoots zero at 100 and is within 2-3 inches of the fiber optic all the way there. if you are going to go the flip rear sight, i suggest getting the sight that has windage adjustment, its in Brownells, it makes it easier to zero the sight if you're off slightly in the dovetail. I have gone with the XS sight for all my rear sights, after using the first one, they are just great sights and they are always there you don't have to remember to flip them up or out of the way. When shooting shot you don't even notice it, unless you need it.

  • 3 weeks later...

I've done a couple of installations with 10-22 sights on M1S90, 21 inch barrels... on the lower solid portion of the rib as low as possible. I make a flatening pass and then drop to the depth... as Trapr commented dont worry till you get the rearsight on....I've used the HiViz Flashpoint FP1001 front sight set to get proper point of impact... the next to tallest light pipe is pretty close... the front sight is a little fragile as it sets tall, and you have to be careful how you stuff it into your gun case, but so far it has made it thru the last 2 Ft Benning matches .... throw away the self adhesive tape that comes with the front sight kit, and glue it on with some rear view mirror adhesive... regards Les
