JustShootOK
Hello all, new member to this great forum, I am ramping up to begin 3-gun. I have a FN TPS pump with C-more optics, it is stock with a full A2 butt and sites and Hogue grips. The optics would put me in open, correct? Also, I don't see a lot of FN shooters, I would appreciate any advice regarding this choice of weapon to compete with. I realize Remys and Bennis are the preferred, but humbly ask for advice on what is needed or not needed regarding the TPS or is another weapon selection really warranted to effectively compete? Thanks , Greg
releo 37
Greg Are you planing on shooting in the heavy metal class? Is that why you running a pump gun instead of an auto. You are right about the Cmore it will put you in open. Bret
tgibson
If you are going to use what you have, I would suggest getting rid of the C-More and shooting either limited or HM, depending on what you have for a pistol and a rifle. The reason I say this is because unless you practice A LOT with the pump, you are going to be a bit slower than the majority of the SG shooters. With that being said, if you can get some speed loaders to work reliably, you really wont be that bad off even with a pump. If you are going to get a new SG and shoot limited or Scoped Tactical, I don't think the FN semi-auto is a bad way to go. I have one that has worked good so far, and have been told that they are basically the same as an X2. I haven't shot enough Open to give an intelligent opinion there. Good luck, TG
Religious Shooter
Tell us what Division you want to shoot in. HM, Limited/Tactical or Open? Your TPS has porting... correct? http://www.fnhusa.com/support/images/dynamic/l/FNM0007l.jpg If all you want to do is have fun... have at it. But if you REALLY want to "effectively compete" the only Division your shotgun is competitive in (with a barrel changeout and removal of the stock sights --- CMORE and ghostring irons) is in HM. And be warned HM is the most f'd up Division that there is.

Just FYI for others trying to figure out what to reccomend for me, I shoot Glocks, compete with 35 limited. Rifle is AR-15. Thanks for comments all. TRUBL
I believe the TPS is just like the Win 1300??? That would mean that Mr. Pat Kelly is the expert on that one. He shoots one of those in Heavy metal, and loves it. AS for the porting.....you be put in open, may as well get speed loaders for it, they make them for the 1300, The pump will slow you down a little bit......if ya dont practice, but not as much as people would think. I would suggest that if you want to start playin this game.....run what ya brung, have fun, shoot some matches.....then decide what , when and how you want to go with your gear. The main thing is.....you are shooting against yourself, see how much you improve from match to match. And by all means.....talk to the people you are shooting with, you will get lots of info and insight on your future in the game. Hope this helps ya!! For Limited/Tactical you need to get another shotgun to be competitive. As it comes from the factory you can only use the TPS in Open. IMHO HM is screwed up basically because there is no consistency in the equipment rules from match to match. And you also get the bonus of having to spend extra $$$ for .308 and (usually) .45 rounds over cheaper .223 and 9MM/.40 rounds that's optimal for Tactical/Limited. HM rifle is also usually iron sights. I think for the majority of beginning shooters the learning curve for iron sights can be quite steep and disheartening. As long as they are configured legally your G35 and AR15 are good choices for Limited/Tactical.
RiggerJJ
If you look at the origin of He-Man, and get your guns to match that, you will be LEGAL in all matches presently offering He-Man class; 308 or 30-06 rifle, iron sights, 20 rounds max. 12 guage pump shotgun, max 9 rounds loaded. 45 cal pistol, single stack, 8 rounds. No scopes, ported barrels, comps, speedloaders, etc! All simple manly stuff! There are SOME matches that offer scoped rifle in He-Man, but if you configure like above, you can play on all playgrounds!!! jj

Yes, I know Benneli is the predominant choice it appears for 3 Gun, I can afford, but I like to standarize , if I see or need a change based on equipment performance I will do it with no problem. My philosophy is to outshoot the weapon then upgrade, until then I stick with what works for me...thanks for all advice, great forum, I am sure I will have more need for the great advice and experiance on these forumns. RiggerJJ
check out www.3gunrules.com you will find lots of info, along with recent rule sets of most major matches. most major matches loosly follow IMGA (international multi gun) rules, which are REFRESHINGLY quite different from USPSA. anyway, within those rule sets are quite explicit equipment descriptions for each class. generally you are ok with a specific set of equipment in all matches (tact scope for example), but there are exceptions. check the specific match's website before finalizing your "kit" for a match and you shouldn't have any surprises. jj Rocky Mountain 3Gun
