I've been shooting Steel plate matches at the Dallas Pistol Club with my Singlestack for a while now and found out today that I've been bumped from B to A class after winning B class 3 times. Today I was 2nd in A class but the guy that beat me (also shooting a Single Stack) got bumped to AA.

Before I drive all that way Sunday, I want to make sure my gear is Production legal. There's gonna be enough whining after the match.

Boz

the hilarity of that photo will cut your SSESC probationary time to minimal.

That said, IF you win, there will be NO probationary time and voting status will be restored. I feel that taking these guys on with their own equipment and winning will be a great representation of the club.

WE are all wishing you luck.

I would like full reinstatement and voting rights restored as soon as the Z man or Merlin returns to this thread, we may be snobs but we keep our word!!!

Today, I had my first opportunity to shoot a "Open gun" under not too good weather conditions. Probably not the smartest thing to do today considering the temperature and wind chill, but shooters are shooters. Anytime behind any gun is a good time (even if it is a Open gun).

I wanted to see if a dot would would help me in my shooting considering the eyesight seems to be going south. A friend of mine was kind enough to let me shoot his SVI and ammo so I could come to some sort of conclusion about purchasing a open gun.

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing one. I was able to shoot 1000 rounds today and although it was down right reliable and easy to shoot, I could not get used to that dot. Yeah, maybe more time with it would change my mind but I just don't see a open gun in my future. I am and will continue to be a 1911 guy.

P.S.

I suppose the money that would be spent on a open gun could go to fixing my eyes instead.

GP,

Consider getting shooting specific glasses.

My normal bi-focal perscription has reading correction in the bottom and a slight distance correction in the top.

We take the distance variable, add the reading variable and then subtract 1/4 diopter at a time until I have a sharp front sight.

My shooting glasses (Decot) have my distance correction in the left eye and a front sight specific perscription in the right (I am right handed and right eye dominate). It works very well.

Gameplayer,

I guess the question I would ask is are you far or nearsighted.

I am farsighted.

Distance vision is fine but cant focus on anything close without reading glasses.

I got a set of prescription shooting glasses from Decot and they made all the difference.

They don't have as much magnification that my reading glasses do.

They are designed to give a slight magnification.

This gives the best compromise between the sights in focus an the down range targets in focus.

I can see my sights fine and the targets are slightly out of focus but not enough to bother me.

I also shoot an open gun when the spirit moves me, and it requires no prescription whatsoever.

In fact if I mess up and shoot the dot gun with my Decots, it blurs the dot.

I shoot the open gun with my Oakley sunglasses and they work beautifully.

The right set of lens may help you quite a lot.

I couldn't shoot irons without mine.

Thanks guys. I will be making a appointment tomorrow. Right now I am wearing progressive lenses. I can see fine at distance but it's the close up that is giving me fits. :angry2:

Progressives only work if you can maintain the same head position relative to your sights - a very difficult proposition shooting IPSC. The dual lens I described above allows you to have your head in different positions and still see the sights.

I do take the slide off the gun and I take it with me to the doctors office. Using a stick or a substitute doesn't work. You ned the sights to confirm the sight picture.

Nemo, great shooting!!! That is a class win, especially in that you beat David W. Well done!! You did us proud

Boz

Where do I begin. The often misunderstood and wayward member who continues to endear himself to the SSESC!!! First of all, I think Boz deserves a lot of credit, as his competitive juices started flowing he did the unthinkable, and got mixed up with some non-believers, here-to-forth to be known as SSESC Infidels. Not only did Boz whip them at their won game, but never showed fear and out smack talked them as well. I can not speak for the entire membership, I am certainly proud of Boz both his bravery and outstanding performance against the SSESC Infidels this weekend.

I hereby restore Boz1911's Voting Status, and also bestow the title of Slayer of Infidels

And here he is, the SLAYER

Boz's Song

Done to a rap beat.

Suppose you owned a hundred sheep

And one wandered away when you fell asleep

Wouldn't you leave the rest to find

The one that left. Aren't you inclined

To seek the one that you own

Though you must leave the rest alone

And when you find the sheep off track

What would you do to get him back?

Would you simply hand him a map?

Or perhaps you might try and give him a slap.

No, you would lift him right off his feet

And carry him home all the way down the street.

Rejoicing all the way you go.

Just as John Browning's angels does, you know.

For there is more rejoicing over one who repents

Than over those who simply stayed in the fence
