Best extractor for 9mm?

What extractor seems to work best with 9mm. I've seen some with a wider paw than others. Would that help when the barrel drops out of battery and the case goes lower on the breachface? Thanks Ed

Just one word. AFTEC.

Switched over to one last spring. Until they invent a better mouse trap, you won't find my gun without one.

another +1 for the AFTEC. Make sure you pick up the correct AFTEC for your application.

I found a deal for a 38 super AFTEC, tried it out in my 9mm x 19 and found out it doesn't work 100% of the time <_<

Serves me right for trying to pinch every penny

As long as the extractor tunnel is pretty close to the right position in relation to the breechface the Aftec is awesome. I run them in all of my guns. I have seen some extractor tunnels though that wandered off position when drilled and the Aftec doesn't allow the adjustment needed to work in those guns, in those few cases a standard extractor is the way to go. Of the standard extractors SV and Caspian are what I like.

AFTECs always seem to work unless you have the rare occasion like HSMITH stated. One thing I have noticed with AFTECs lately is the spring strength has been extremely strong causing too much extractor tension. Even after trying to collapse them with pliers. I've actually needed to grind the springs down on the last few I've fitted to get tension correct. I'm not a fan of the AFTECs because of the price. I prefer to use the Caspian or Infinity and buy two and have a spare fitted in my bag still cheaper than one AFTEC.

:surprise:

Im not a fan of Aftec`s for the 9mm,allthough most guys/gals want them, and they can be fitted to work,

I feel they are a fix to a problem that isnt a problem , caspian extractors work fine and Dawsons have a wider

hook and work really good also, the problems Ive found that crop up with the aftec isnt the aftec but the

extractor tunnel in the slide, I use a round file and clean up the tunnell paying attention to the bottom of the tunnel

(this doesnt effect the use of a standard extractor) if you choose to change); we are trying to get a slide

that is designed around the 45 caliber round to extract a little piece of brass, even the slightest contact

with any part of the ejection port will throw the 9mm brass off and no one knows what its going to do

,pay attention to getting the fireing pin stop bevel like the instructions say= make sure the extractor

with no springs in it will move back and forth with the stop installed and the fireing pin in place then polish

the tunnell till the extractor with all parts will hold a loaded round in place, if ya have to shorten the springs

or do more than collapse them ya need to work on the tunnell till it ejects .
