Forum Guidelines

Recommended Posts

Lately, the Moderating staff has noticed a steady increase in the number of Members advertising in their posts or in their signature.

From the Forum Guidelines:

Advertising

The general forums are not for any advertising whatsoever.

Please do not advertise for yourself or others in your posts or in your signature.

In addition, "Group Buys" are prohibited on Brian's Forums.

"Advertising," in most cases, is defined as linking a web site that sells products or services in your post/signature.

Of course there's plenty of gray area here, so I won't attempt to list every possible example. In a nutshell, please follow the Guidelines. If you don't:

a. You create a lot of extra work for the Moderators. And you know that's not a good thing. ;)

b. It's not fair to Brian's Forums paying dealers.

c. It's not fair to the Members who follow the Guidelines by not advertsing.

BrianEnos.com's Dealers are permitted to link their Dealer Forum in their signature, or refer members to their Dealer Forum in general posts.

ONE LAST NOTE: If a Moderator asks you to remove advertising from your post or signature - because you either didn't read the Forum policy on advertising or did and chose to ignore it - please, just remove it. Don't trash the Moderator, or cry that you've been "singled out." And please don't waste the Moderators time by requesting that he single-handedly contact every member that has advertising in his signature. Even if you feel you're doing the Moderators a favor, there's no need to report other members - the Moderators will ask members to remove advertising as they encounter it.

Thanks to everyone.

Brian

Due to the recent increase of advertising in Member's Posts and Signatures, I just added this to the Forum Guidelines:

09.24.08: Any advertising in a Members Post or Signature will be immediately removed by a Moderator, and then the Member will be notified with a PM. I'm apologize for the bluntness of this - we are making every effort to be fair to our paying Forum Dealers.

You guys are alright.

I feel like Andy Taylor in Mayberry...mentioning a busted window to Opie and his pals...and a bunch of them stepping up to take responsibility. :)

-------------------------------

- Jamie, I'd have to look, but I think Kenny is OK. ;) His Member Group says: Forum Dealer (like Jim's...above).

- Forum Dealers can run simple links to their websites and their dealer forum in their signatures. And, I think they get some leeway on their avatars too. :)

- Jim, I think you were fine. You were answering a direct question.

We have some current issues of members that aren't Forum Dealers that are adding in advertising in their avatars and/or signatures. Those will have to go.

Just trying to get the word out. :)

Links to blogs, USPSA classifications, non-dealer competition club websites are OK...as long as there isn't anything (products or services) for sale at those links. If you are linking to a site that sells or promotes...that is advertising, and against our forum rules.

If I am understanding this right then a link to a Brownells product would be prohibited? Ccould I give them the part number and quote the description and host the image of the part? Equipment and where to acquire is a central part of this sport and the basis of many of the discussions here.

I believe that you are concerned about something other then what Flexmoney is stating. Links to for-profit websites or advertisements in your signature line or avatar are against the rules. If someone is looking for a widget for his/her pistol then it would be completely appropriate (and helpful) to provide a link in a post where said widget can be found.

I'm desperately seeking an 8mm Widget. Can anyone post a link to such an animal?

www.widgetsupply.com

I didn't search for 8mm, it may not be a metric site.

I hate having to police this stuff, but I'm seeing more and more of it on the forum. It seems to be slowly snowballing.

Yeah...I imagine we got it about the same, no?

I mean, I can usually just ask/remind and the perp says, "OK, thanks for the reminder." You get the same, right?
