Nik Habicht
I've set a match on a day when the first three of us to arrive had to discuss the actual temperature because our respective trucks were reading -1, 0, and +1 degrees Fahrenheit. I've shot a match in the single digits --- some of the construction guys were bringing portable propane heaters out to warm us up between stages. Glocks --- at least Limited and Production ones --- run in those temperatures; some other stuff puked a little..... It was fun, but I'm not so sure I'd do it again now..... Ron Ankeny
The first couple of years after we started the club, we shot when it was cold as long as it wasn't snowing and there wasn't a lot of wind. Now that the new has worn off, we don't shoot unless it warms up to double digits. The coldest temperature I have been exposed to was -54 F and that's really cold. The coldest weather I have shot in was around -35 on a goose hunt. I was younger and dumber. Well anyhow I was younger.
Big Bore
We had a local 3 gun match on Jan. 1, it was -1 at 9:00 am and the warmest it got was about 20. I brought along a propane heater and cleaned any excess oil out my guns the night before. They all ran fine.
Turbo23
I am not sure why, but southern cold feels colder that northern cold. And yes, I spent the first 17 years of my life in NE Ohio, so I know cold and SNOW, DEEP SNOW!!!I don't think I dislike snow/cold, I KNOW I don't like it!!! I know what you all mean about cold and snow.... Here it is never out of high teens, and the occasional 20 day all winter long. Mornings are all - something... oh and Z... as far as snow.. we have 3-4 feet standing on the ground now and have had since mid December. It snowed 27 of 31 days in December!! I hate this stuff too

It was a chilly 39 at the range this morning, warmed up to 50 something at the end of the day. Really perfect weather. I'll be whineing in August when it's 130 in the shade. Blaaaa! Barrettone
We're looking at 18-19 degrees for tomorrow morning, a tad chilly here in Georgia. Ain't going to do any shooting!Coldest place I ever lived was in Lansing, Michigan as a young child. Friggen snow was piled halfway up the house for what seemed like 8-9 months out of the year! We're just outside Lansing, and I have shot in -20 weather (my personal record in back in 2004). I am a bit more selective these days, as Michigan is a cold place to shoot in the winter. I prefer the indoor variety this time of the year.
Fullauto_Shooter
I've got an experience much like M Ammo described on the first page. Not a "match" but M16 Qualifications in Korea in the Winter of 96/97 - mid FEB 97 IIRC. Was with 4/7 CAV at the time and a group of us loaded up and drove out to a small range just North of Freedom Bridge (The Western Corridor, just north of Munsan). Temperature was hovering around -18 with a windchill of approx -30. The heating tent heater didn't work and we all ended up huddling together for warmth, we had coffee in a silver bullet but it froze about 30 minutes after we got to the range. Weapons were seizing up and only a handful were able to actually qualify because everyone was shivering so damn hard. Thankfully, we were only on the range maybe 5 hours before common sense prevailed and we packed up and came back to camp, just before an ice storm hit that closed all the roads. God Loves the CAV!! Coldest USPSA match - gotta be my one and only match at OOPS in Southern Iowa (winter of 02/03). High Temp was right around 5 that day if memory serves. Dave Gundry
It was a nice day - I think fun was had by all A few stages went down the toilet in a hurry due to the shakes and general jitter's for me... Burned through about 10lbs of propane using a sunflower - but it sure felt great. I think everybody in our squad really appreciated it I think just about everybody was having gun issues. I was the only Production shooter in my squad, so I didn't see how the other plastic guns were fairing - the M&P ran perfect except the mags weren't dropping free... Great time - hope to shoot with those folks again soon
Glen
I have a date for some rifle practice today. It's -20 F as I type this. Two years ago, in February, I shot a 3gun match in about the same temperatures. Lots of hardy people around the burning barrels. Cold is when you have to break off the yellow icicle after you piss. ChuckS
Tomorrow looks kind of chilly here also Chuck, You may have warmer weather there, but you also have more pollution....hahaha. This should be fun this morning!!!! I hope my open gun runs. <Light> amounts of full synthetic motor oil for lube is the order for the day. Yup, but some spots are better than others. I went for a 2 hour bike ride by the beach this morning and really didn't notice any air quailty problems. But is was cold. I had to wear a sweatshirt with my bike shorts. Burrrrrr. Hey, enjoy your weather now, it probably won't be skeeter time for a few months!

Matt P.
well this match was fun and for some strange reason, by the time we took that photo, it felt warm. notice jackets open and even a few without some?
bierman
I don't remember exactly how cold it was, but wt zhen I was in the police academy it snowed the whole week we were doing firearms training. I believe it was somewhere in the 20's. Luckily we were divided into 3 groups so we spent most of our time in the ammo room, loading mags and defrosting our hands until it was our turn to shoot. I just remember seeing big fat snowflakes floating aroung in front of my face while I was shooting. Not a very fun week.

I did wimp out on this one but I was thinking about you guys while I was sitting in front of my roaring fireplace drinking coffee and reading a good book. I did dry fire a little, though. XD Niner
It was a balmy 35-degrees when I hit the Gainesville Target Range for a two hour practice this morning. That is cold for northcentral Florida. Of course, I the flew to Denver where it is currently 1-degree so I am not complaining.
Vulture
The key to getting your gun to run was keeping it bagged with a couple of hand warmers inside, then rebagging after you shot. Pasters sticking to targets was another problem or not sticking i should say. When ever a .45 shot pasters went flying. It was fun and we get to do it again next month.
