Wanted to post a review of a band I saw last night.

The Drive-By Truckers

Great band!!! Three guitarist a bassist and drummer. Two of the guys played a pair of Les Paul's most of the night. What a treat to hear/watch two guys standing next to each other playing those two beauties for all they had. WOW!!! The band is from Northern Alabama and plays with alot of grit. First time I really heard of them, but I'll watch for them next time!!!

One thing my girlfriend and I both noticed was the enthusiazm of the leader of the band. The guy was singing and playing all night and he had the biggest happiest grin plastered all over his face. He really energized the crowd!!!

If you get the chance check these cats out!!!

I had thought about posting in the music thread today and 3QT revived it for me. I recently started using the randomize feature on musicmatch jukebox and I redisovered the cure. I also heard pink floyd's first album saucer full of secrets. I wonder what Sid Barrett is up to these days (besides five different kinds of meds).

Also on the jukebox, Avril's under my skin. I usually don't go for the popular stuff but it's my new girl power anthem/album.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY

NEWEST CD - THE BLESSED HELLRIDE

GO GET IT NOW AND TURN THE VOLUME UP TO 11

Damn, another reason to like Dan Bedell..... :)

I'm actually into all kinds of stuff - though it's pretty much all rock influenced. I tend to gravitate towards agressive, heavy stuff - but my roots are classic rock. I could write a list - but it'd be waaaay too long ;)

I just picked up the new The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute. Wow! The music is beyond description (but I'm going to go ahead and give it a shot anyway). It is odd, odd, odd. Weird mix of jazz, funk, metal and latin. Track 3 is my favorite so far.

Dave.....if you get into the new one at all.....(it is a tough go at first for sure)...check out the previous one.... De-Loused in the Comatorium... it is a masterpiece. I like Francis the Mute... I can see where they were going.... and they did some amazing work on it...but de loused to me is one of those rare "masterpiece"' kinda records. Cheers... WES

Jethro Tull

Metallica (and some of their new stuff is really good, too- Load and Reload kick ass)

Green Day

Bob Dylan (Desire is one of the greatest albums ever produced)

The Beatles

AC/DC

Beethoven (For those mellow times...)

Enya

Loreena Mckennit

Evanescence (Fallen, the best album of '03)

Collective Soul (Youth, the best album of '05)

Shakira (If every woman in the world could move her hips like Shakira, there would be world peace)

Wolfstone (An awesome Scottish rockband- you owe it to yourself to check them out)

Fleetwood Mac

Wierd Al (I still have too many Wierd Al moments...)

Aint it amazing how many different kinds of music one person can like? Of course, I do like all sorts of guns, too... old WWII Mausers and Enfields, Walthers and Tokarevs, 1911s and Glocks, side-by-sides and over-unders, the list goes on... I guess it's not that surprising after all :D

ok, anyone that has seen canabal corpse live is decent in my book. They have such a great show.

On other recent music lists has been two bans.

The Banner - HXC

Watch Them Die - metal

Throwdown is fun too but straight edge gets old sometimes.

The Band

As I posted in the general music forum I'm a new The Band fan.

For any interested check out this one first.

the_band_shadow_gimp.jpg

It's from 1969 and called the brown album. Great stuff. It's been in my head for weeks now!!!

Then find this live one.

rock_of_ages.gif

Rock of Ages. It's a live show on New Years Eve 71'. The Band was incredible live. Wish I could have seen them!!!

Of course don't miss The Last Waltz.

lw_2.gif

Find the DVD if you can, but it was released on CD. These guys were amazing in the way they could melt together and make music. They didn't really get along that well over the years, but they had a way of jiving on stage that was very special.

The Beatles (post Rubber Soul)

The Dead - did you go the concerts for the music or the audience??

Cream

Jefferson Airplane or Starship or whatever.

Moody Blues - No I never did get an answer, but at the age of 58 I'm still looking.

On the other hand as a classsicly trained country and western dancer, The Texas Playboys and their modern clones, Asleep at the Wheel are always at the top of the list.
