LOUISIANA GATOR CLASSIC 2007

Recommended Posts

Just finished shooting our monthly match at the range and we were informed that there will be 16 guns and a Dillon 650 on the prize table. Total prize table value in excess of $16,000. The range is in great shape.

Todd, you forgot the 2 STI frames and the S$%t-load of other stuff. The prize table keeps getting better every year. There will be 3 raffle guns given away also.

Hate to correct you guys here, but that $16,000 is just the start. The statement was that we have $16000 for the prize table from match and stage sponsors. A large portion of shooter entry fees are also used to create the AWESOME Prize Table.

The fact is that the Louisiana Gator Classic Match generates $0 of income for the section or clubs.

%100 percent of the net proceeds are used give awards and prizes back to the shooters.

I'd like to add that in South Louisiana we really know how to make a dollar go a long way.

Last year I tanked a couple of stages and finished 13th overall in Limited. My prize table BOx was almost 200 dollars in value. A friend of mine finished 27th and his prize was of equal value to mine!

Gary and Barbara, & Co. Really do a great job of filling prize boxes with great stuff.

LAGC doesn't even make $$$ on concession. They are being provided by the local high school JROTC program, which serves as a fund raiser for thier programs.

Make Sure you get your application in if you haven't yet!!!!

Randall - I shot it last year and had a great time. The stages were excellent. It's worth the drive. I was planning on being there this year, but I'm moving so my weekends are shot (rather than spent shooting). If you can make it, you'll really enjoy it!

I second that, those guys and girls in LA know how to put on a match. Guaranteed to have a lot of run/gun and high round count stages. Darn sorry you won't be there this year Chuck. We'll have to find someone else to hold down your end of the breakfast bench. Maybe next year.

Oh, as for lodging, there is a Howard Johnsons in Thibodaux that is a little closer to the range and is right on the "strip" as for a the food joints are located. If you like roast beef poboys, try the Frost Stop near the Howard Johnsons, but bring a bib with you.

Any of you guys "in the know" as far as to whether or not there are still slots left to shoot this? I just mailed in an application today :( and hoping there's room for me. I've never been to LA, and it sounds like a great match. I already took the 25th and 26th off, and I just have to wait to book a flight/car/hotel until I get the go ahead from the MD. Also can anyone recommend the least bad hotel in the area, none of the reviews I read were to favorable? Thanks a lot, this will only be my second major match.

The Best Western in Gray is the official Match Hotel.

The only two hotels in Thibodaux I'd consider staying in are the Howard Johnson and the Ramada.

Here's Contact Info.

Howard Johnson Hotel-Thibodaux - www.hojo.com

201 N Canal Blvd, Thibodaux - (985) 447-9071

Ramada - Thibodaux - www.ramada.com

If I were coming to Thibodaux, I would look at staying at the Naquin's Bed and Breakfast (naquinsbb.com). Its cheap, good home cooked food and less than 1.5 miles from the range. The couple that owns it are as nice as you will find anywhere.

Heard from the MD/RM.

There were spots available as of today, but they're going fast.

He did say that he could take a few more shooters but he wouldn't be able to promise any squad requests.

If you haven't decided yet, Just Do It!!!

Send in the form and a check. ASAP!!!

The cool weather has already started to arrive.

Sighted in my muzzleloader this morning and it was cool (for Louisiana).

This evening I was doing yard work and did not break a sweat.

See Y'all There!

Yeah I'm a little worried I might have the wrong equipment, Kentucky Rifle's all I got.... In all seriousness though, I should be arriving at New Orleans International on Friday and assuming all goes well I'll be shooting either sat or sunday. Anyone wanna suggest some sights to see in N.O. or surrounding area? Thanks for the help guys, just have to decide on a hotel to stay in, the cheaper the better, to a certain extent.

Tha National D-day museum in New orleans is a must see along with the Confederate War museum right around the block on Camp street. Other than that, I can not think of anything worth while, besides getting drunk in the French Quarter or gambling in the local casinos.

I go to New Orleans a good bit (I live about 40 miles away) and I know the area and am careful. I am a retired cop and know the doe's and dont's. Don't think for a minute that N. O. is a place to get stupid. It can be very dangerous, keep that in mind.

Stay in the crowded areas and don't get off the beaten paths and all should go well.

Yeah I've heard some of the local news reports on the crime rate in NO, and it sounds rough. I have my NH ccw license which is recognized in LA, and I'm definitely going to be staying in the "good=touristy" areas. I can't wait to get down there, arranging my flight and rental car as we speak, still undecided on the hotel though. Thanks for all the advice guys, looking like this is going to be a GREAT match.

John, I don't know anything about the hotels/motels in the Thibodeaux area. You can e-mail Gary and Barbara and they probably can tell you. Thibodeaux is a nice little town but does not have many hotels/motels.

There is a steel match there Sat., If you still need info e-mail me and I will check it out Saturday.

Local Events available:

Oak Alley and Laura Plantations (Many moves shot at either) are less than a half hour drive.

Swamp tours. Torres or Zam's in Kraemer, LA. (That kid ZZ and his family was on Wife Swap)

They're about 20 Minutes away.

There's a VERY LARGE traditional Cajun Festival in Larose, Louisiana.

French Food Festival. It's about 30 - 35 mintues away.

There's a National Park in Downtown Thibodaux. Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center.

They have some interesting displays and information.

If you've never seen one of our above ground cemetaries, Take Highway 1 from Raceland to Thibodaux and stop at St. Mary's Right on the Highway to see acres of white crypts.

St. Joseph in Thibodaux is another good example.

Laurel Valley Plantation (where some of Angel Heart was filmed) is not open for visitors, but the only Laurel Valley General Store is a historical site open for tourist with lots of interesting artifacts and information about plantation and country life in Louisiana. It's on LA 308 just south of Thibodaux.

If you have an extra day or two planned into your visit, I'd strongly suggest taking the long drive down to Grand Isle, Louisiana. The trip will take you from the farmlands of Thibodaux down the bayou to the fishing and boat communities of Larose and Golden Meadow. THen though what's left of the wetlands to beach of Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island. The Island community was destroyed by hurricane Katrina and is making a steady effort at rebuilding.

If you like to eat, Like Me!!!

Resturants I'd recommend include:

Bubba's Resturant: Sit down traditional Cajun and American food. Great Sports Bar!! $$$

Fremins: Sit Down Upscale Gourmet Cusine. $$$$

Bubba's II PoBoys: Order, Pick and eat, No Table Service: (Great Sports Theme). $$

En Vie: pronounced (Ohn vee) Sit Down traditional Cajun and Gourmet Cajun & RAW OYSTERS. $$$

Pepper's: Pizza and more: Sit Down: Large Variety of Beer on Tap. TV's with Sports. $$

Demitasse Cafe: Soups, Salads and Sandwiches. Set inside of an Antique Store. $$

Of course if you don't want to say within your comfort zone Thibodaux does also have:

Chili's, Ground Patti, LaCasa del Sol (mexican), 2 Asian Buffets, Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse,

Oh and by the way, I wish I had one of those cool cap and ball or flintlock truely Primitave weapons.

I shoot an TC Black Diamond 50cal in-line.

Ayeeeeeeee! Mais that's some fun that!!!!

The D-Day museum is a must see. Aquarium of the Americas with an IMAX theater on the riverfront. If you're into jazz PM me on the particular flavor you like and I'll see whats happening. Can't go wrong with Old Man Marsalis (Wynton Marsalis of the Lincoln Centers dad) at Snug Harbor. Threre's more to NOLA than getting loaded on Bourbon St.

Jamie, you'll meet Ray. He'll be ROing one of the stages.

Ray forgot to mention Blakes, their shrimp po-boy has enough shrimp left over in the wrapper, after you finished eating it, to make two more. It's about two miles from the range.
