It's not time to rhyme quite just yet.

But I'm writing an entire Lim'rick set!

--A scribbling fool!

(it's all just a tool

to push you to write more, you bet!)

Watch this thinly veiled attempt to butter up the judge.

A champion Cup shooter named Brian

Shot down plates, till the judges were cryin'

He said, "That was fun."

As he holstered his gun

For his record, they all are still tryin'

What are the guidelines for this limerick contest? Is there a limit concerning the number of stanzas which are allowable, and what about the number of contest entries? I wouldn't want to get the FTDR for not being in the Spirit of the contest!!!

TL--

It was my impression that:

1.) The bulk of the competition would occur ON April 1st for one day only

2.) There was no limit to the number of limericks entered on that day, necessarily

3.) The limerick material had to be originally written by the person posting

Then I saw the April contest forum suddenly open up (it's still March, I think), so I was just as confused as you. I've been limericking simply because I can and tend to think in rhyme when I get going on it.... so if someone gets me started, they just keep coming.

Ask Brian. I can't tell you why the April contest forum topic showed up this early.

It is not the official April - Win A Book. I started it to find out if anyone but you and me and Shooter Grrl would write a rhyme when the time came. So far noone else has...

I too am under the impression that it would be a one day contest, on 4-1-03

No limit to the number of entries.

Winner chosen by Benos.

Original material only.

What about length? Not saying that quantity would be more appropriate than quality, but a moderate number of stanzas, limited to, say max of 10? I mean length could get out of hand, by some of the posters who find it so easy to think in rhyme...don't you agree?

My assumption on Limerick form to use is the one we've already been using to date. Or, as you say, it could get outa hand. I'm all for using this standard form.

ALSO: Brian never quite mentioned (if memory serves me) what TOPIC we were to rhyme ABOUT. Perhaps he'll stop by here sometime before April 1st and make a professional suggestion. :)

How many times have you tried

Or laid in your bed and cried

About making a rhyme

Which withstood time

But found that your brain was fried

Or

Every good rhymist is taught

That although the contest is fraught

With lots of odd verse

All twisted and terse

Their efforts were all for naught
