Could it also be that the statue looks a lot like Paul Horning but the statue says " Paul Hornung?"

I would note that sports internet sites spell his name Horning but Wikipedia says Hornung. -- Got to be a story there.

The Louisville Slugger is a famous baseball bat.

That statue guy is looking for a football bat.

Somehow that didn't some out right. :blink:

The statue of Paul shows him wearing Wilson football cleats, model year 1971.

Everyone knows that Paul's last season was 1966, AND Green Bay was equipped by Converse. That's what happens when you let art majors design something...

Need I mention they have him posed with his hip kicked out the wrong direction for the foot thats up...

Not that far out of place. The field has the Louisville Baseball HOF and Paul Hornung was an all-everything athlete in HS in Louisville. If he hadn't went to Notre Dame to play football he could have been an All-Star in the MLB or NBA.

He is widely considered the best all-around athlete in Notre Dame history.
