Piney
Greetings-- Newbie to reloading here-- I'm going to buy one or the other-- but Im on the fence.... 550 vs 650. I plan to mainly reload .223, but suspect some 9mm and .40 in the future as prices rise. I recall reading in a couple of places that the case feeder system doesnt like .223. If that's the case, then the extra speed from using the 650 doesnt matter if it wont feed well, eh ?? Comments ??
D.Hayden
650 and .223 case feeder.. no problems I think the 550 won't do .223 with the case feeder add on...
MI_Packer
I run .223 in a 650 with a casefeeder. A Lee Factory Crimp is on all of my tool heads so the extra station is necessary for that. The powder check is worth it in my opinion - never had a squib load. I found powders like AA2230 and H335 meter well while IMR 4198 doesn't. .223 .243 .40 .45 .45-70 .300WSM and soon .460 S&W Mag
CaseyJ
If price isnt an issue get a 1050 that way you can do military brass and expand our production. the 1050 has a primer pocket swage. Other wise use the 650 because the 550 case feeder is only for pistol cases. Buy a dillion super swage to prep your primer pockets if you want to use military brass. it is more effective than a machine that removes brass to remove the crimp, sometimes they can remove too much and your primers will just fall out. Hope this helps
uscbigdawg
I've loaded 10's of thousands of 223's on my 650 with no issue. Heck with the calibers you're looking at, it's a perfect setup as you'll never change the primer system (not that it's difficult to do so). I run a full Dillon setup, dies, etc. and get .25 MOA groups and VERY little SD. Just good equipment, setup and maintained. Rich
rschoon
I just went from a Square Deal to a 550 and a 650. The 650 is the cats meow. I love it. I have a tool head set up with just a 223 sizing die and a toolhead to do the rest of the work. I run the case feeder dry sizing so that i can check dimensions and trim if nessessary. i have cut my reloading time drastically. Did I say I love it? R Lewis
I load 223 on a 650 with casefeeder. Great setup, no problems at all. I just purchased a 1050 for 45 ACP. I like it so much, I'm thinking about selling the 650 to get another 1050 for 223. That 1050 is one sweet machine.
GentlemanJim
I recently started loading 223 on my 550 it was too slow to keep up with my pistol ammo , but its perfect for my rifle loads You just cant go wrong with Dillon! Jim
