For the most part lowers are lowers. Stay away from polymer ones. Billet looks cool and costs more but does not offer any real advantages but does not hurt either.

The same info from 2007 is still good for 2014. JP still makes an awesome rifle but many companies are beating on the door. Adams Arms is coming up with some great stuff, and so are all the others.
