BritinUSA
Some record companies do not want their songs to be downloaded. iTunes will only show those songs for which they have permission.
XRe
Some bands only have a few albums up there.... Like The Kinks, for instance... I wanted to download the studio version of Lola and couldn't find it anywhere... but a live version is... No Tool on iTunes, either, for that matter... Chris Keen
I fear some bands are against internet downloads (of any kind). ie: Metallica
ihatepickles
It's all about the deal for the artist to get paid. The vendor (iTunes) has to work out how the royalty will be paid with the owner of the rights to the music. If no agreement can be reached, iTunes (or whomever) won't have the music. j1b
Chet, my good man, the reasons given are legitimate and true. It's all royalties and negotiations and, in the end, about the fundamental belief of the content owners. Oh, and please note the bands you mentioned own their own content. Most, when they sign the contracts, give the rights to the content to the label. I will note the bigger question is why don't you own the relevant CD's and why don't you rip them to iTunes (which is legal BTW)? I gotta say, if you don't already own every AC/DC album then I question your true commitment to the cause (whatever that might be!) Chris Keen
Why Are Some Bands Absent From I tunes? I don't feel tardy .........
j2fast
I may be wrong but I think the Beatles specifically aren't there because the of the off and on disputes between the Beatles Apple Corp and Apple Computers. It's likely you won't see the Beatles on iTunes any time soon.
DJPoLo
I will note the bigger question is why don't you own the relevant CD's and why don't you rip them to iTunes (which is legal BTW)? Actually, I've got what I need in the way of AC/DC, Tull and Beatles on CD (and ripped to iTunes). My original post was purely thinking out loud. The actual question was first posed to me this week by one of my employess - I gave everyone at work their own iPod Nano Red as Christmas gifts and he was curious about the lack of AC/DC on the iTunes store. -Chet Edited January 10, 2007 by DJPoLo

Scott Butler
I have also noticed the lack of a few bands/artists I would enjoy listening to... but money seems to be the root of all evil! Also noticed that unless you own a iPod(insert model), can't download music from iTunes(unless you rip it to CD...and there is a counter on that privilege). Good luck!
