Sharyn
Great post, John. uh, wow. Jay, are you addressing the published letter only, or this entire thread? If you're addressing this entire thread... you need to trudge through it again. First of all, I am a single male that did not even take notice until this thread brought the AD to my attention, so I guess it was not that bad!!!! Actually, you might want to consult your psychology books again... something called desensitization... kinda relates to your words in regard to killing/maiming too. I think that some people just want to control what goes on in our country, which is based on FREEDOM of CHOICE. USPSA and the advertiser in question have the CHOICE to run the AD. YOU, as a reader, have the choice to ignore it if it offends you. I think the majority of us are members of USPSA. USPSA is comprised of its members. I respect the time and sacrifice our brothers in arms today and in the past have made to ensure that -->YOU <-- have that choice. Many of the same people that are up in arms over an AD in our USPSA publication would have a freakin' FIT if Roe V. Wade was overturned by a conservative Supreme Court. They would say that they were having their freedom of choice taken from them. I'm not your brother in arms, but I am a veteran of the first Gulf War... so who ya talkin' to, beotch?!?! Uh, seriously though, who ARE you talking to? OK, I am done!!! Grab yourself a waffle, my friend... It actually might have been better if Front Sight didn't publish that one off the wall letter. I would have much rather heard from Mrs. Norris. Merlin, I'm sorry you feel this topic should die. I'm pretty happy that we have had the opportunity for this sort of discussion. hmmm... the only one missing is tightloop. SiG Lady
(thank you, 1911user) OK, I'm going to post it twice--just in case: Well, here's MY twist on the whole deal: Let's not fret the sexy lady issue... Let's just give the ladies equal time with the inclusion of a sexy MALE model now and then in the gun rags and ONE sexy male model per year on the front of The Blue Press. That might come close to covering the percentage of female viewers/shooters in the audience anyway and shut the complainers up a bit--hopefully. Not to mention the pleasure factor and fairness factor (I'm a normal, healthy female after all). God, what have the publishers got to lose??!! They have everything to gain if they want MORE (normal, healthy) female readers/shooters, I bet.
AlamoShooter
So am I the only one that remembers the year the Swedish Bikini Team shot at the Steel Challenge? I remember some kind of a hubba hubba about it when they shot, but I did not walk down to see. Linda has no memory of it at all, and that was 2001? She did remind me about the year some strippers shot in a match in Florida, that was 1994. All of it was ... Silly

kevin c
My humble submission of photos that would sell guns in FS or any other gun rag, promote the sport to both sexes, draw the eye of both, and respect the subject and her colleagues. The photos and post content both demonstrate what may draw the eye of some men (physical attractiveness) while those same pictures and the same men can be respectful of the shooter, her skill, her accomplishments, and her very apparent strength of will. Those photos would sell guns to women in the sport, and promote women's participation in the sport. Most important for this discussion, what matters to any prospective advertiser, the posts show an active interest in what the subject uses and promotes in her shooting. It's not just a matter of the photos drawing the eye of a visually oriented species. kurtm
Since quite a few people here seem to be dusting off those high powered college degrees and taking thing very "literally", I can't resist adding a few insights gleaned from my good old days in the academic world. ( fluids lab ment a trip the Coors Brewery for a short tour, any C.S.M grad will know about that! ) First off Moles can't make Mountains! They can only be made by vast mechanical means such as Plates of the earths crust colliding, riding over each other, or moving apart. Vulcanism can also play a part in "building" mountains ( see the Hawian Islands, Mt St. Helens, Shasta etc. ). "many hills" can't make a mountain, as erosion takes care of flattening mountains into hills. Hills aren't "stacked" to make mountains, mountains are "unstacked" to make hills; by wind, water, or crushing forces such as glacial movement. Now most of this takes a few hundred million years so I wouldn't wait around to see if this is true or not, but trust me they are either going up, or going down there is no in between so I wouldn't worry about moles making a mountain. Now I'm not saying that Moles don't have thier place. As a matter of fact they can be down right cute in certain places....such as the microwave, the zoo, or perhapse the reticle of an optical sighting device. Now I know you are wondering how the hell this even relates to this thread?? Well the ad is like the mole, cute in certain places, and like the mountains, in the fact that after a couple hundred million years you won't have to worry about it too much
Lee Bell
Some wives are incredibly protective because they are insecure due to their own issues. My wife allows me to look but not touch. She realizes that the day I stop looking she probably needs to call EMS and/or the mortician. My wife doesn't worry about it, one way or the other. I don't touch because I know I'm married, I know why I'm married and I know who I'm married to . . . and she knows it. I think this whole thing has gone way, way too far. A company pays to put an add in a publication. They choose to put a scantily clad woman in the add. Big deal. It's a non event. By the way, I didn't notice such complaints when a certain member of this group posted her pictures wearing less than I think she'd wear as an action shooting participant . . . unless of course, she was looking to distract the male competition. And I still haven't seen the darned add. Lee
Carmoney
I still say the picture of me in that same issue of Front Sight counts as "equal time" eye candy for the ladies.
