Illini
I picked up 500 rounds of 40 S&W 155 gr. RN FP West Coast plated bullets. I am looking for some good loads for general range use-- not too harsh or not too mild. I have a pretty good supply of the following powders on hand: Titegroup, Win 231, Win WST, and regular Clays. I will be using Win Small Pistol Primers and mixed cases. I am planning on shooting them through a Glock, USP, and Steyr M40. I did a search on the website, but did not turn up much info for 155 gr. RN FP plated bullets. Can anyone help me? Please specify your load including OAL and crimp. Thanks for your help. There are good folks here. Regards...Illini
yoshidaex
what will you be shooting these rounds out of? I have long load 40 s&w recipes but none for short loads. You can try here also.

IIRC the majority of people load out to 1.13 oal for glocks. not sure about the steyr M40. as for crimp, most people will crimp only to get rid of the belling. if you go by numbers .420~.421 is a good reference point. TG, 231 and clays are all viable powders. can't comment on wst since i've never tried it.

Regards...Illini I have some loads using a Berry's 155grn CP RSFP bullet which is very similar to the type you are using. All primers are CCI small pistol with mixed brass. I omit the 20 shot string velocities for the sake of space. Average speed is in feet per second. A mild taper crimp was applied to return the case to factory spec at the mouth. 40SW 155grn Berry CP RSFP 6.8grn Unique OAL = 1.125 Average Speed 1119.0 Power Factor 173.4 Standard Deviation 11.3 Gun = Witness Match 4.75" bbl Note: 45 degrees And the same load in an XD40 40SW 155grn Berry CP RSFP 6.8grn Unique OAL = 1.125 Average Speed 1090.6 Power Factor 169.0 Standard Deviation 19.4 Gun = XD40, 4" bbl Note: 45 degrees The Unique loads are very accurate, more so than I can hold them, but Unique leaves some soot in the gun. These loads easily make major power factor in both guns. Some with 231... 40SW 155grn Berry CP RSFP 5.7grn 231 OAL = 1.125 Average Speed 998.0 Power Factor 154.7 Standard Deviation 22.8 Gun = Match 4.75" bbl Note: 45 degrees 40SW 155grn Berry CP RSFP 5.7grn 231 OAL = 1.125 Average Speed 942.4 Power Factor 146.1 Standard Deviation 23.2 Gun = XD40, 4" bbl Note: 45 degrees These loads are pleasant shooting but not major. 231 at this pressure did not seem to be as accurate as the Unique loads, but not bad. 231 also leaves some soot in the gun, but not as much as Unique. Outside temperature was about 45 degrees for these tests. Unique is not as sensitive as 231 to temperature so I would think if it was 70 degrees the 231 loading would be somewhat faster. I have some more loads made up with 6.0grns of 231 and 8.2grns of HS-6 with the same bullets but the weather has prevented me from testing them yet... Perhaps this week. I also have more powders on the way and will be testing Tightgroup, Silhouette, and VV3n37 with both the 155grn and 180 RSFP copper plated bullets from Berry's in the next few weeks. I hope this helps. Edited January 1, 2007 by Justsomeguy
Nemo
Although I haven't shot production in a while, I used 155 grain bullets for my production loads. These consist of a Berry's 155 grain FP bullet over 4.0 grains of Titegroup at 1.130" OAL. Mixed brass, WSP primers. Nice minor load. pbcaster45
I haven't chronographed this load yet but it's what I use in my Glock 35. Bullet: Xtreme Bullets 155 gr. RNFP Powder: Winchester WSF 6.3 gr. Primer: Winchester Small Pistol Case: Mixed 40 S&W LOAL: 1.
