GaryXD
As an aging pistolero my eyes are having trouble picking up the sights. I have been reading about the Truglo TFO sights and have wondered if they are right for me. I have also read that some people like the TFO front sight and a plain rear. So here are two ideas I had and would appreciate comments on them: Plan # 1: Using the Truglo TFO sights on both the front and rear. Plan # 2: Using the TFO front sight and a Warren Tactical rear. My thought on this was maybe it would force me to focus on the front sight. The gun: XD-9 Service The applications: IDPA, carry, and nightstand
ihatepickles
I'd personally like option #2 or something similar with a plain black rear sight better. Flashy stuff on the rear sight makes my eyes wander between the front and rear sights. The rear sight is best when plain and large.
XD Niner
I have a full set of green TFOs on my XD-9 Service and like them pretty well. My only complaint is that the FS is a bit too wide relative to the rear sight slot width for my tastes. It takes up about 2/3 of the available space. I prefer something around 50%. Other than that, they are a great set of sights.
BBunin
The big advantage of the TFO's is that they are Tritium. You pretty much need the set, in order to be able to use them as night sights. Beinga able to see the front sight in low light doesn't do you much good if you don't see the rears to line it up with. If you're not concerned about them being night sights, there are several choices from Truglo, Dawson, and others. Save the extra cash and get the ones that are exactly what you want. XD Niner
One significant advantage to the TFO sights that I forgot to mention is that they glow in any light. In daylight, the fiber optic is a bright green (or yellow) and the night sights seem to be about the same intensity in the dark. They are much brighter than my Trijicons. glocker21
I LOVE MY TFOs !!! Ummm...sorry, had to get that off my chest. I have TFOs on all my 1911s, Glocks, and will be installing a set on my USP 45. I absolutely love them and will not own anything else given the choice. Now, if they only made them for the AR15. Jim Watson
I like the concept of the TFO but the only set I have (briefly) seen, the rear looked brighter than the front. Was it really brighter or just the same inserts closer? I don't know but that ain't right. I am considering having a TFO front put on a gun with plain or well aged regular Tritium rear sight. SA Friday
If you are using them for defense possibly at night, you need the trituim in the front and the back. Without rear tritiums, you are really guessing at your site picture. At night, they are the brightest night sites I've seen on the market, and at without any other light source, the front and rear sights are the same intensity. With an additional light source, it depends on how much light is getting picked up and by the individual fibre rods, but not a whole lot of difference. I have a set on my Glock 23 carry gun and really like them.
