I imagine you have already dealt with the gift issue by now, but if not, I highly second Bruce's idea of a Jiu Jitsu membership. If I was a kid, I'd have killed for that gift.

Note to the uninformed: Jiu Jitsu does not use strikes. No kicking, punching, elbows, or knees. Mama's baby will never come home from class covered in black and blue. This is why I think it a much better idea for kids versus Karate or Tae Kwon Do. Forum member Spook is currently involved and has always been real helpful to my questions.
