$100 - December

We've still got two weeks... So I picked 5 quotes from books from my library - whoever gets the most correct before the end of the year wins their choice of anything from my Store's Combo Deal page.

Please: Don't use the internet to find the answers. Although the quotes are fairly obscure - you guys are pretty resourceful.

It'll be fun to see if any of the quotes "sound familiar" to anyone. If so, the guesses should be fun for all.

:D

Good luck!

1.

This constant urge for speed, through which the human race has ever sought for faster and better ways of doing things, has, no doubt, been responsible for man's gradual, but none the less steady, progress and improvement.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

2.

You should bear in mind that your own eyes are unique and differ from other peoples eys as much as your face differs from their faces.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

3.

If you can accept that the fact that pressure is normal, and that it can be controlled, then the problem is not such a great one to solve.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

4.

Too much thought about the mechanics is a bad thing for anyone's game.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

5.

It is easy to prepare the body for a contest; it is difficult to prepare the mind.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-==-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I should win something for guessing what the first wrong answer for #5 will be!

1. Warrior Speed

2. Stevie Wonder

3. Cornelis Drebbel

4. Mike Rutherford

5. Miss America

Well, you got me there - Miss America would not have been my guess.

;)

Wow, that was quick. I didn't even realize anyone had posted a December contest yet and it seems to be over.

Adam

It's not over! We still have almost 2 weeks!

Hmm, it seems to me that they could all be found in a very familiar book. Something about shooting, some guy from Arizona.

They all yours, Brian?

Nope - but funny though. So I guess you're saying it's no surprise that I picked those quotes from 5 different books.

And I still can't believe that #5 doesn't sound familiar to anyone.

:(

I'm a little sad we're not getting at least any good fun guessing action. Maybe the holiday season's got everyone all serious for a change. So let's up the stakes a little - the winner, if there is one, gets a $100 gift certificate from be.com.

Could it be that we could find these quotes from some of the books on our very own shelves ?

For one - I'd say yes. If you're a student of handgun shooting that is. And yes for two more, if you're the kinda person who'll read everything that's ever been published on any kind of shooting. And for the remaing two - they've both been out of print for a long time. So probably not. Neither of the "last two" are about shooting. Of those two, one is a tremendously good book - if you can read between the lines and are an intuitive-feeling type learner. And the other of the "last two" doesn't really have a whole lot of useful information for shooters... but his book was influential for a big influence of mine.

;)

=-=-=-=-=-=---=-=-=-===-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

And you might notice that I edited the thread's title so the "$100" could be seen from the forum's home page. :) In a lame attempt to draw in some more action...

I'm guessing #5 is by Bruce Lee

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Thank you. That's the wrong answer I was waiting for! And when I tell you why after it's over, I think you'll see why... it's interesting, at the least.

And I forgot to mention - anyone, previous winner this year or not - is eligible to win this month. But if the action generated thus far is any indication - it looks like my $100 is gonna be still in my pocket. Or maybe the best wrong answer(s) will win.

I'm really hoping someone will get at least one right <_< so here's a couple hints:

#1 - The "wordy" style is the tip off... (if you've read his book of course...)

#5 was written by an influence of Bruce Lee. If no one gets anywhere from that, I'll post where you might start looking to figure that out. ;)
