haras
Anyone willing to share some good load data for using 38 Long colt in a 627 .357? It's for ICORE so about 125-130 PF would be about right.
R112mercer
I don't have a load for LONG Colt but I do have one for SHORT Colt, might be a good starting point: 158 gr. Rainier Plated RN @ 1.100" - 3.0 gr. W231 - .38 SHORT Colt Brass In my gun (5" 627 V-comp) it's right around 120 PF.
DougCarden
My rule of thumb is to reduce the 38 spcl. load by .04grains and chrono. You should be close. .06 grains is what my 38 short colt loads are reduced from 38 spcl. Your gun and loads may vary, but this should give you an idea. As always, reduce more and chrono, looking for pressure signs, etc. al........ With the short colt you can use 9x19 load data with medium powders (TG, W231,etc) and chrono up from there, so that would be a good starting point as well. It will obviousy fall in between the 9x19 and 38 spcl load data though. Be DAMN careful with fast powders and 158grain bullets! It will sneak up on you fast. Good luck, DougC

Good luck, DougC I used 3.2/3.3 Clays in LC to make pf easily at last years IRC. I just reduced OAL by the difference in case lengths from the special. This was with a 160 Billy Bullet (great profile)

Bubber
Haras, I too am computer challenged. I just went to the reloading forum, Highlighted 9mm 38 reloading and did a search for "long colt". there were several threads listed. As you noticed that the data from Hodgens will not get you even 120 pf. I never had good luck with the Short colt loads. But there is some people that have great luck with it. If I was computer literate I would link the data but alas.... good luck rdd

AzShooter
I had my best luck with the .38 Short Colt and 160 grain Billy Bullets. Worked fantastic. The 38 Long Colt should give you a little more safety.
