870 Spring

I am setting up an 870 for Heavy Metal Division. It has a 21 inch barrel and I have had an extended mag made for it (It now will hold 8 rounds). My question is what mag spring length should I use. At present there is a mag spring for a +2 extensiut on in it it works OK but at times it feels sluggish when feeding. Any suggestions would be appreaciated.

The free length of the spring should be 10" to 12" longer than the magazine (total lenght of the tube).

You could just get a generic mag spring from Wolff and cut it to length for best function.

Ok....the std free length here....does NOT apply to to Pumps.you can go shorter. Like 6" to 10" of free play is good enough. The reason for this is that the motion of you strokin the forearm back is going to bring your shells back.

I showed a lot of people this at the tri gun last year and at the RM3G......it's never failed and makes loading SOOOOOO much easier with the lighter spring.

I typically go 50% longer than the length of the tube as a general rule to ensure reliability.

I wore out the original factory springs in an 870P and a Benelli M3 in less than a year. Replaced them with Wolff springs cut to 50% longer and they work fine.
