Chuck Merriam
I just got a new Sight Tracker...seems like it should handle 1.230" OAL. Kind of weird with the AET barrel...just want to make sure I don't blow it up. Are they all built to eat long bullets? My other regulars do... just fine. wide45
You should ask whoever built it. AET chambers will vary depending on the installation. You could try making some dummy rounds, and find out how long ypu can go. Don't run the longest length that will fit. Some free bore will reduce pressure. You said a Sight Tracker, so I am assuming you are shooting a 40 S&W. I load mine at 1.185 OAL for 40 using MG 180gr JHP. I think you can go up to 1.200 but anything higher is probably unnecessary. If you decided to go with longer OAL just make sure the bullet is not hitting the rifling of barrel. Sandro
Chuck Merriam
Yea 40 S&W.....I got it from Tilley's dad's store in Raleigh, NC....this is a factory built SV. I have spun a few in the barrel and shot it at 1.220....didn't seem to be a problem. Thought maybe I would ask the masses. Do you have a powder charge for 1.185 oal MG 180's with N320? I am at 5.1 +/- and 1.220 but haven't chronoed yet in this barrel.

I load 4.6gr of VV310 at 1.185OAL with MG 180gr JHP, 169 to 170PF. The key with the AET barrel is to shoot good quality bullets. I like Montana or Zeros, I am sure there is others, but I like these two. I am switching to Clays because it softer, but I don’t have a load for it yet. Chuck Merriam
Update: I talked with Brandon yesterday and he said the max. OAL for the New SVI AET sighttracker barrels was 1.230. But he said they have good luck with a OAL of 1.210. I was having a problem with a few rounds acting like they were touching the lans (sp?) and jamming...he said that there might be a burr of brass in the chamber and to take a brass brush on the end of a drill and run it into the chamber a few times spinning. He said I would be hard pressed to take any of the TiN coating off. He said if it didn't fix the problem, call him and send it back they would make it right. Nice people to talk to and deal with....very helpfull.
.40AET
1.200" oal Fed SR primers 5.1g N320 MG 180g CMJ PF=169 Factory SV. I can't see a good reason to go longer than 1.200" oal except that you will need more powder to make major and you could possibly be too close to the lands and grooves in the barrel causing pressure increases. I've tried a lot of loads for this gun and always come back to N320 as the best powder. Try some of the other powders, you never know what will feel best to you in your gun. He said if it didn't fix the problem, call him and send it back they would make it right They have some of the best customer service in the industry. No matter what is wrong with your gun, at any point in time, make sure you call them. They will make it right.
Jaxshooter
I load mine to 1.170 for my SV Sight Tracker with a 180gr Zero JHP.
Chuck Merriam
Well...I did the drill/brush thing and took the gun to the range for test firing. Gun ran great...started at Factory Ammo...then 1.160 OAL...then 1.185...then 1.200. Not one single jam! Shot the gun on a short live fire 21 round course and it was flawless. So problem fixed. Thanks Brandon at SVI and the forum members.
Mick
These days I'm not sure why you are loading so long (1.200"+) unless you are still loading Clays. I've been using N320 for almost 10 years. I had a tech at VV named Jukke Lumme (I think that's how he spelled it) check the load of 4.9-5.0 grains of N320 with a 180 CCI bullets at 1.160" earlier this century. He said the loading density was great, the temperature was good and consistancy was as good as anything out there or better. They just don't publish N320 with 180s in the .40 because it is possible to double charge a case. (they haven't seen Titegroup's volume???) When you load long the loading density isn't as good leaving room for the deviation to increase...? .40 ought to feed just as well at 1.150" as it could at 1.200".
