Indexing A Free Float Tube - Ar15

I have a vented DPMS FFT on my 20" AR that I'd like to index clockwise (from behind the rifle) about 1" so I can line up one of the vents to install a piece of pic rail and maybe a JP short range sight. The gas block is a JP, if that matters. What is involved in doing this?

Dumb Question: do I need to even worry about moving the FFT and just drill some holes to mount the rail?

TIA

If it is a matal you can drill and tap it for set screws. Use fine thread and five or more. This way you can index it anyware on the delta ring. This is asumming you have a two piece hand guard delta ring set-up. I have a two piece and once I indexed where it I wanted it I just lock tighed it. With a little heat I can remove it. I used the red. Propane tourch and a strap wrench and it comes right off.

If you have the right tools it is not that difficult. Get the DPMS wrench. Around 25 bucks. It has the correct stuff on it.

I have also done the drill and tap thing and was also successful in that as well.

If you don't have the tool or whatever, you can always get it done for you.
