the duck of death
Since the rules state, in all divisions, no add on weights would tactical lights be legal?
Vince Pinto
Hmmm. I know I'm gonna regret answering this question but, under IPSC rules: 1. Open Division - there's nothing to stop you. 2. Modified Division - there's nothing to stop you provided the gun fits the box with the light attached. 3. Standard Division - tough call because a tactical light is not really "a device to control or reduce recoil" but I guess it could be argued that way. In any case, the gun with the magzine inserted and the light attached would need to fit the box to even get past first base. 4. Production Division - if, say, you used a Glock pistol and a Glock tactical light (available soon), there's nothing to stop you. 5. Revolver Division - disallowed (see Point E). Next time, please ask an easier question like "What's the meaning of life?"
tightloop
I have to ask the obvious, why would you compete with the light on your pistol?
the duck of death
I forgot to put in the post this is a IDPA question. IDPA has night matches.

tightloop
Are you a policeman by chance?
the duck of death
This is the repily I got from IDPA--"that isn't considered add on weight as long as the gun still meets the weight requirement for the division." The weight limitations are ESP--43oz, CDP--41oz, for SSP I could find no weight requirements. The rules do state for SSP, under excluded modifications, "add on weights of any Kind." tightloop
Do you have a holster that holds your pistol with light attached? How hard is it to draw and how hard to get your grip? Policeman???
the duck of death
I do not have such a holster nor do I know where to get one. I'm keeper of the rules for our club and sooner or later this question is going to come up. I wanted the answer for that eventuality.
jhgtyre
For those of the Glockish persuasion Glockmeister has a kydex holster that will work with many of the Glocks with an M3 light attached. Look here if you are interested. -jhgtyre
