On another forum, we were discussing automatic weapons and someone claming to be the Steyr rep stated that they will soon have a Steyr AUG 3 full auto available in the states for $2,300. This was the first I heard of it and the thought of ANY automatic being available in the US for $2,300 makes me excited and skeptical at the same time. Have any of you heard anything like this or is he puffing smoke to get the locals wound up?

Steyr *says* (and has on the price list for 2006) that there will be some AUG's imported. But they will be semi auto only, no Class 3.

Civilians are allowed the privilege of owning fully automatic arms, but only if they live in a state where it is legal, pay a $200 transfer tax, and pass a background check.

Civilians are not allowed to own any fully automatic firearms that were manufactured after May 19, 1986. That's why you see astronomical prices for these guns - the supply is ever-dwindling.

So if Steyr starts making a new one, the average Joe will never get to have one.

Try to get one of the FN 2000's. They are supposed to be semiauto but all it takes is a zip tie and you can rock and roll. There is no modification to the gun whatsoever. Shot one Sunday quite a hoot.

For $3000 it the easiest any of us mortals will get into full auto. The waiting list at a local dealer is 316 folks long. We'll have to see how long this stays available until the feds figure it out.

That would be a law enforcment or Military price..... civilians can't own them at all.. there are lots of cool things LE can own though.. just have to have the department that cooperates. OR you can incorporate and start a manufacturing business then you can have all the cool toys you want. but those licenses aren't easy to get.

Steve,

In all honesty. FN 2000 is a semi auto available to civilians. Very easily with a zip tie it is full auto. An acquaintance who has one has no LE ties whatsoever. Just a business guy with more money than brains.
