bonedaddy
OK, I'm setting up the 1100 for SERIOUS 3 gun shooting. I've got a 28" modified VR barrel with a bead. I'm thinking of going to a shorter barrel with Rem-chokes, only I see that Mr. Brownell has a Multi-choke adjustable in the catalogue. (To my totally novice 3 gunner brain, this makes some vague bit of sense.) I'm thinking to myself, "self " I says, "now why don't you get one of them 'justable chokes and jes be ready for all likes of shooin' short or long range, never you mind, with birdshot, buckshot, or slugs." Now, I'm not worried about the gun being pretty, pretty don't win no races. Is this all together a bad idea? At work they're teaching us to "think outside of the box". I'm tryin". Flexmoney
Sam, I asked a similar question about the chokes when I purchased my synthetic 1100 from Wallyworld. It has the 28 inch barrel with the switchable chokes. It came with the modified Rem choke. Yours should serve you well. At least until you have aquired the experience needed to decide what works for you for where you shoot. I know you will practice with it, so give what you have a go. BTW. Cabela's has the cheapest prices that I have seen in print for the Remington barrels. (Edited by Flexmoney at 11:30 pm on Oct. 15, 2001)
Chriss Grube
get the chokes, you will get the best slug accuracy with improved, and for the best 2 or 4 buckshot on paper you need the full.
bonedaddy
Thanks for the replies guys! What I'm really thinking about is mutilating my 28"VR by chopping it of to 19" and then soldering on a gizmo called a Poly-choke or Multi-choke as opposed to changable chokes. I could change the choke constriction with a simple twist of the wrist. It looks like a friggin door knob on the end of the barrel, but I'd try it if I thought it would do the job. But, some of my ideas aren't always as smart as they seem to be. Any feedback on this planned mutilation that might stay the hand of the surgeon? BTW, I took after my STI grip with a Dremel tool and skate board tape on Erik's advice and made a vast improvement!
Chriss Grube
Bad idea! The poly choke has been around since the 60's Obviously not too successful. What are you planning on shooting open or limited? Open you need about 26" of barrel or you 10 shoot tube sticks way out past. Limited is 8 rounds and needs about 20-22" You can get it machined to take choke tubes or just buy another barrel.
Les Snyder
follow Chris's advice...I shoot limited and have a 26inch vent rib for STC, I shoot the Citori GTI for the skeet and sporting clays, but after the NC 3gun tactical had a 28inch vent rib cut to 21 inches and threaded for tubes. If you can find an 1187 21inch special purpose, would grab it if you can. regards
Rich Bagoly
In IPSC, why should the barrel length match the mag tube? I have a 20" barrel with a 10 round tube on my 1100. I like the light weight. Its quicker to reload, and lets me carry more shells.
ErikW
Just use a removable choke barrel with an Improved Cylinder choke. Screw in a Modified choke for the rare stage with long, tight shots. If your barrel is fixed Modified, fine, just shoot it. I mean, you're not actually considering plinking away on a stage, then reaching up to the muzzle and cranking your Dial-a-Choke for the long US poppers, are you?!? bonedaddy
Well Erik, .....like I said, "some of my ideas aren't as smart as they seem to be." On the other hand, I could start a new trend.......... Bang, Bang, Crank, Bang.
